Yesterday Mayor Greg Myhre and Chief Tom Dellane declared a local emergency in the Township of Stafford. This declaration allows the Township to put rules and regulations into place with the various problems we are now working on to address the coronavirus (Also known as COVID-19). The declaration was signed to allow operational needs of the Township to be met and to ensure the welfare of the people and businesses in the Township. This ensures the police and other township departments can remain operational and maintain law and order during this time.

This declaration also provides for temporary suspension of the Township’s ban on single use plastic bags. This suspension is due to the fact that the coronavirus can live on cloth bags for several hours after exposure and stores have experienced supply issues in obtaining bags that comply with the ordinance. A determination was made by Township officials to waive the single use plastic bag ban during the State of Emergency to assist businesses to operate efficiently and to allow residents an easier way to transport goods to their residence.
