A 79-year-old school bus driver was sentenced Wednesday to 10 years in state prison for the deadly crash two years ago that killed a Paramus student and teacher and injured dozens more.
Hudy Muldrow Sr., of Woodland Park, appeared in Superior Court, where he apologized and said he “loved” the children he had driven.
He pleaded guilty in December to charges stemming from the May 2018 crash on Route 80 in Mount Olive that claimed the lives of 10-year-old Miranda Vargas and 51-year-old Jennifer Williamson.

Joan Lang Not if you read so that’s there.
This is being fixed.

From 2018 ! Got 10 years !
Read the link under see more ! It’s all there !
Frank Cavalieri yes it does but it’s a different County from two years ago and this heading simply says fatal crash in Ocean County it doesn’t say when so the majority of parents with kids in Ocean County on buses have their hearts jump. It’s not hard to understand that the caption shouldn’t be as alarming as it is
Angel Helene Cooper geez. Everyone knows it was the i-80 accident from 2
Years ago
Frank Cavalieri my friends daughter was on that bus!
Glenn Lockhart oh wow that must’ve been crazy ! Hope she was ok ? Horrific crash !
Frank Cavalieri She survived. Nightmares are still bad!
Clickbait isn’t cool. And as a parent of children who take Toms River busses, the pic used is especially wrong.
This is being fixed. So is our stock bus images.
Ocean County Scanner News Your doing great. The problem is people just read what they see instead of clicking the link and reading the whole article
Ocean County Scanner News no doubt it’s not intentional. But it doesn’t say that it’s old and it doesn’t say that it’s in a different County so it’s a little alarming to parents with children on buses here. I’m sure you understand that and most of us don’t think it’s clickbait we just think the caption should have been less alarming LOL
Gabriella Dechert In fairness it could have said something to let us know that it was an old article or not Ocean County. It’s understandable how people with kids in this County who’s get nervous with that headline
I totally understand both sides. But take the extra minute to click and read
Holy cow. Seriously? My heart sunk seeing this picture. And then i became infuriated after reading the article and it has absolutely nothing to do with trrs. Good lord.
This is being fixed.
JoAnn Kopenhafer Robillard. Same here
This has happened before. Scare headlines, out of area news, mismatching photos. What gives ?
John Coluccio it clearly says it happened in 2018 and the sentencing just happened….. read
Krist En out of area. I didnt comment on the time frame.
That poor child and women.
Enjoy your 10 years scumbag
If you people keep up on the news and stop acting so perfect then you all would know and be well aware of this…how about sending prayers for the victims who lost their lives and for the children who survived this horrific crash…And non the less says 2018 at top so people get glasses
Yeah, this picture makes me sick to my stomach.
I don’t think anyone won today. My heart breaks for the families and this poor man. It was not his intent to kill people that day. He made a wrong choice to turn that bus around on the highway. At 79 yrs. old he will probably die in jail.
Cynthia Caimano It was not his intention to kill? What do you call it when your license has been suspended countless times for reckless driving and you get behind the wheel of a bus carrying children? Good intentions? Give me a break. He needs to be in prison for life. Save your bleeding heart for the lives of an innocent child and a dedicated teacher who died at this creep’s hand.
Adele Marie Wow can you be any nastier! One can make a point without slinging daggers.
Cynthia Caimano Not being nasty, dear, but 25 years working around criminal law I am being realistic. This guy with priors is a POS.
Adele Marie Okay I can understand what you are saying but your pior post was very nasty.”save my bleeding heart”. I am a compassionate person and want to live my life that way.
Adele Marie I lived in that area at one time. No sane person even in a car would do what he did.. He should never have been driving that bus. Its multiple lanes, on a hill and a blind spot. He deserves to rot.
Deborah Huha Turner Adele Marie stated that he had multiple reckless driving charges prior to this. My question is who hired him to drive the bus in the first place. Wasn’t his driving record checked? That person should also go to jail for making an error in judgement.
Cynthia Caimano I agree. He also was too old to be driving a bus let alone a school trip on an interstate highway. Someone at that bus company needs to pay.
Deborah Huha Turner I think the school system should check driving records lso. The are putting the lives of teachrs, chaperones and the children in the hands of an individual. They should not rely on the bus company to do due diligence.
jesus christ this is how lazy society has become? look at a picture & assume its currently true instead of doing some reading first??!!! Whoever hired a 79 year old to drive a school bus should be held just as accountable for this as the driver is
George Frncis I hope the surviving family members sue the pants off the bus company and the Board of Ed for hiring this guy with no background check or physical/mental evals.
George Frncis it’s not even that he was 79 did you read how his license was suspended FIFTEEN TIMES!??? They should 1000% be doing background checks into people’s MVC records when giving them responsibility to drive a bus of children. How do you lose your children 15 times anyway that’s crazy
Relax and Read!!!
I don’t know what he was thinking must be stupid to try to turn around on I 80
It clearly says 2018 cash I am really confused how people thought it was today? what am I missing or was 2018 not there at first?
Soooo parents can leave their kids in hot cars for death and not go to jail, but this man causes an accident and he gets 10 years. Yes seems fair. No he shouldn’t have tried to turn by any means and I’m not agreeing to his actions. However I think there’s a serious problem with our justice system. And this shows.
Sad for all..unintentional but careless. He carried precious cargo every day and one bad decision changed so many lives. I truly believe having to live with that memory was punishment enough
Hunter Ellenberger
What was he charged with tho? I vaguely remember this
Andrea Rapko-Vinciguerra he did a u turn in the middle of rt 80 the bus was hit by a dump truck it actually ripped the body from the chassis lucky only two passed
Nick Golio well that’s just dumb
Andrea Rapko-Vinciguerra that’s y hes going away
I want to know. Why was this late 70 something year old, driving that bus in the first place? I do feel for the loss those families are now suffering, but now his family is going to lose him. Why was he even still driving?? I think that there should be a mandatory age limit set for those able to still drive a bus with school children, and 65 should be the cut off. If they want to still drive, go do uber or lyft. But not a bus full of kids. And that school should be sitting in the jail cell with him, cause they let him drive. All I see here is loss all around, and one person got the blame. And yes he was wrong too.
His sentence should be the expected life span for each person whose life was taken by his ill negligence and disregard for his victims
