Unbelievable ????
Dam so sad. Prayers, hopes and strength for all addicts. Recovery is possible
So the implementation of the Narcan Express has done nothing to make the problem improve, but instead has possibly made it worse. That’s a lot of ODs for just one town. Add up all the surrounding towns and I’m sure the number sky rockets. When is everyone going to learn that this Narcan bullshit was a failure from the start, and is only encouraging these people to continue using? Heavy, serious consequences need to take over the coddling and enabling or it’s going to continue to go downhill.
Christopher John Karbownik first of all Narcan is not a failure that is just ur opinion and second it has nothing to do w encouraging these people to continue to use. Again just ur opinion. Is there and easy answer, no. But the existence of Narcan is not the problem and that is not just opinion, there are facts to that statement. Idk maybe the mayor’s of these towns need to figure out something to combat this epidemic in their towns. I dont have the answer for that.
Christopher John Karbownik you’re looking at Naloxone in the wrong context. It’s not BS and it does save lives. I’ve seen police officers use it in HOPES of bringing an addict back, NOT simply to arrest them, but to hopefully scare the shit out of them to stop using and get help! Arresting and flooding the already ridiculously crowded penal system does NOTHING to help the addict as heroin/opium/fentany can be accessed in some jails. As for the addicts, they’re going to keep CHOOSING to keep using. You’d rather the cops/EMT’s do NOTHING for an OD’ing person?
I’d rather the people breaking the law by using illegal CDS get arrested and go to jail like they’re supposed to. Kinda ridiculous they get a bye because they OD’d. And at least if they’re locked up and still getting drugs in jail, keep em there longer, and the upside is they’re locked up behind bars, and not robbing money out of somebody’s car or stealing from their loved ones houses. Getting them far away from the working class society who makes good choices, helps the community, and follows the law is a good thing.
Christopher John Karbownik addiction is a disease. Not a choice. Other countries rehabilitate. They don’t incarcerate. And it works. We should follow their lead. Try to have some compassion. Or at the very least, educate yourself on addiction.
Christopher John Karbownik narcan doesn’t save people from going to jail. It saves peoples from dying.
Christopher John Karbownik lol as if the “working class” is immune to falling into addiction. Do some research.
Linda Lowerre-Cordani it is a choice first…you have an option
1. To stick a needle in your arm.
2. Not to stick a needle in your arm.
After you make your choice it then turns to addiction….
Yeah, lock people up.. that works out…….Worried about your tax dollars ? Why don’t you see how much of your money went to the useless war on drugs since the 80s vs what an addict stole from you…. Prohibition is useless.
Honestly I’m so god damn sick of holier than thou people.. What if you became an alcoholic the first time you experimented with booze ?? Or that innocent line of blow you most likely did In college ? Just because your body and mind didn’t react like someone else’s and you don’t understand it, doesn’t make you more of a person than anyone. Most addicts and alcoholics I know take accountability for the shit they do, and put people through. They are harder on themselves and put themselves through more mentally than people like you ever could. If they’re shitty people, chances are they were shitty people before they became addicted to drugs ….
There is a lot of choice involved in addiction issues….there’s also a lot that isn’t…ones entire brain chemistry is altered..it is a viciously progressive thing and it does kill people, but not before breaking them down to the point where death is a welcome and viable option anyway..
Christopher John Karbownik addiction is a medical problem, not criminal
Tina Brito Biester wisdom comes wirh age, young and dumb, then Help them live to become mature adults!
Linda Lowerre-Cordani drugs is a CHOICE!!!! Cancer, Kidney Disease… things we cannot control is a disease!!!!! People with cancer or kidney failure cannot simply decide not to have it!!
Tina Brito Biester no one sticks a needle in their arm their first time using drugs lmao most of the time they are prescribed pain killers which leaves them addicted, leads them to buying them off the street and so on and so forth…not everyone that overdoses has stuck a needle in their arm anyway, that’s just ignorance on your part.
Linda Lowerre-Cordani addiction was their choice…everyone makes a choice and there are consequences for those choices and they know that going in …that man is stating his opinion…don’t get mad at
People
when they state their opinion!…this is what’s wrong with everyone!…the only person responsible for their choices is themselves!…omg people open your eyes!!!
Jeffrey Michael stop!
Robin L. Hazen Stop what ? You obviously didn’t read a thing I said anyway so…..take your own advice.. Stop getting mad at people for what they think… Why are you special? What makes what you think the correct way to think ? Everyone is so quick to strike someone else down…said it before and I’ll say it again. I’ve never saw so many perfect people in one place. Essentially, you can blame people for anything bad that happens to them. Drug addiction just makes that ALOT easier. My mother died of lung cancer …she smoked for 20 years…you gonna say she chose to give herself cancer ? People take risks ALL the time knowing what COULD happen to them….if you ever have a car accident, I’m going to say, well, you KNEW the risks when you got in your car that morning …you must have WANTED to have an accident…it’s a pretty asinine way to think….you think an addict keeps doing what he is doing because he or she wants to ? Do you know any of the horrible things that happen to a person when they’re addicted to ANYTHING, let alone an illicit substance that brings you into the bowels of society…..no one thinks they’ll ever steal something from someone they love, or be homeless, or die, or have someone saying, well, this was Your choice, a few years from the time they are innocently snorting a powdery substance up their noses at a high school party. Which by the way, almost every adult human being I know has experimented with drugs in some way shape or form…most were lucky not to have the reaction to it that an addict or alcoholic has.
EVERYONE makes an incredibly stupid (most times more than once) decision in their lives, that ultimately could end up very badly for them…People take risks and do inherently dumb shit all the time. I bet you’d be alot more sympathetic if it were someone at the beginning of their drug career, like a 15-16 year old kid screwing around with this shit in a friend’s basement..you people think that the people that are doing these drugs are not from the same society you are….it could be your neighbor, pastor, son of daughter.
Most of the time, any situation that you’re in can be avoided or prevented …But ya know what. I’m a human being, so are you. If you are in the trenches and really could use a hand, I’m going to give it to you…I’m not going to kick you in the face while you’re already down, regardless of how you got there…..but hey, that’s me
I have a question.
When they administer narcan I’m pretty sure the Illegal drug is right next to the person if not stuck in their arm. How come arrests aren’t made for having illegal drugs ?
Mike Salimbene great question. I wonder the same exact thing
Christopher John Karbownik the drugs are confiscated & the vic/patient is given immunity
They need too take away immunity and force these people into jail or rehab. They still get a choice that others don’t get, but yes the “narcan Express” as sometime out it needs to stop. You can’t correct behavior without consequences
Mike Salimbene bail reform ????
Denise Pegg where does it say that. I think thats just opinion.
Mike Salimbene I would imagine they are charged at the hospital when they recover if they recover. I never heard anything about immunity
Wendy NiHuiginn being a widow of an addict, please understand that you can force them into rehab but it wont work unless they want it to. I am against the narcan but also for it. There are so many that struggle everyday, it’s a mental illness along with generic,
I’ve never nor will I ever try anything, I’ve had surgery and begged not to get pain meds because of the fear of becoming an addict. Its truly sad that theres so many people dying from this,
The problem is: forcing them into rehab, they don’t want it. They come out and do it again and now die because they were forced to beclean for 28 days. So that’s why u cant force an addict. They have to choose it for themselves. Or … they die. There is no other option when it comes to heroin ????
its the Good Samaritan act in NJ. They implicated that law because people were afraid to call when someone od’ed. They didn’t want to get in trouble. But in turn, now someone dies. Whether addiction is a diesease or a choice, that is someone’s son/brother/father, sister/daughter/mother….so any life lost, is a sad day.
Mike Salimbene next time you get called for Grand Jury go, it will open your eyes! Bail reform requires they get release in 4 hours, with note telling them to come back to be punished. We would see 20 plus drugs cases a day and during the once a week for 16 weeks. We would have the same people come across the docket. One of the first we heard died before his second time!
Mike Salimbene by the time narcan is needed the shit is already gone.
Done.
The same reason they don’t get possession charge too often, they get it and do it right away.
Say what now? You can break the law by using drugs but as long as you nearly die of overdose you are immune to prosecution because narcan was used??? And how is this possible?
Wendy NiHuiginn you can’t force an adult into rehab and if their is not left over drugs they can’t make an arrest . Due to no evidence. That’s like smoking a blunt and then getting pulled over. You don’t have anything on you so you’ll get slapped with a dui instead of possession charges. They shoot up or smoke or whatever they do before hand. It’s a misdemeanor charge. Not worth the paperwork I guess
As sad as this is, how many people died from cancer? A self imposed disease should not consume so much attention, money and resources. Take the money spent on this and re-route it to diabetics who are struggling pay for their insulin meds. Enough already. The human condition has been drugging and drinking forever. It will never go away.
Kelly McDermitt Zuzic 1 life isn’t more worthy than another. If you saw faces and read success stories of those who overdosed, but are now sober, you’d feel differently
Kelly McDermitt Zuzic damn right! Pretty soon, as with many other mass used drugs, the Narcan price will skyrocket and the supply will slowly run into national shortage levels as the issue to and use by law enforcement and EMT’s continue to double and triple.
WHERE are the FREE and easily obtained diabetic supplies so T1 diabetics can continue to live, work and try to have a normal life and not worry about WHERE their insulin will come from?
If society placed the same priority on getting diabetics and cancer patients the drugs they need as EASILY as they make FREE clean syringes, support, narcan and immunity FREE to addicts…imagine the world we’d live in!
Keith Childers it’s a shame isn’t it.
Kelly McDermitt Zuzic addiction is not desired by the addicts! Do you really think they want to be an addict?
Kelly McDermitt Zuzic very well put,,,,,,if you want to mess with heroin ask yourself if you want to play with be a loaded gun
Kelly McDermitt Zuzic. I agree with you !!!
Diane Cassitta choices…they made…I was burned over 25% of my body and am diabetic!…I was on morphine for the first six days ..I was in a burn center for 27 days …did I go home addicted to morphine?..NO I DID NOT IT IS A CHOICE TO BE ON PAIN MEDS !…I didn’t take anything but Motrin when I went home ..my choice!..this post makes me sick and tired of ..the coddling of addicts!…it was their choice!..PERIOD!
Kelly McDermitt Zuzic agreed. Except people that have diabetes because of their obesity and eating choices.
????????????
I like that you bring awareness to the epidemic, however it breaks my heart there are so many heartless members in this page. Unaware of what drug addiction is and how it destroys entire families.
If we stop using narcan we won’t have so many ODs. It’ll acutely drop the number .
Justin Scott that’s actually true … up north they don’t use narcan they let them sleep it off . It’s not actually an overdose their high as f$@# . Stop using narcan it’s a waste
Justine Martin Mack do you know the difference between a drug NOD and and overdose? Please look it up
You dont “sleep off” an overdose
Andy Nemec I know these idiots keep over dosing
It was only two months ago I heard two medic units one Sunday morning talking in Wawa and they said Toms River ran out if Narcan the night before. They had to go into Monmouth County to borrow some!
I may not be remembering correctly but wasn’t there an OD in the WalMart parking lot on 37 in 2019 or was that the beginning of this year? Time to take the bull by the horns and get this epidemic in order.
Barbara Gerrity Yuengel that was lacey Wal-Mart not toms river
Angel Helene Cooper, thanks. Ops!
Do you have the stats on Brick, Point or other towns in Ocean Cnty? Just curious to see the comparison of the surrounding towns. Plus it would give us the grand total for Ocean county. Then heads would really spin…
Smh
Hope Sheds Light supports families dealing with addiction…check them out to understand what’s being done to fight this epidemic.
It Just Makes Them Do It More????????????????????????????
Most of the people on here have no idea what they’re talking about and really should educate themselves.
Well nothing’s going to change if we keep coming to the rescue with tons of narcan. Maybe they wanna o.d, maybe they feel like their life isn’t worth living anymore. People turn to drugs for a reason. You don’t just wake up one day and be like “hey today’s a great day to start doing meth!!” It’s much deeper than that. Let’s try making counseling more accessible, Or reaching out to your loved ones more often. Doing a well being check on someone goes a long way.
Is this 17 fatal OD?
If I’ve said it once I’ve said it a million times. You cannot let people die no matter what the circumstances are.
Patricia Lorraine Zennario I can think of a few
Steve Domanskia like?
