Statement by Mayor Reiman: Despite a valiant effort by all personnel involved in last nights rescue attempt, the young man was pronounced deceased in the morning hours of Thursday, January 23rd . Our thoughts and prayers are with him and his family during this most difficult time . Our small community is saddened and shocked over this tragedy; we take solace in knowing that our emergency services responded and did all they could in an attempt to rescue him . The brave men and women of our Police Department , Fire Department, and EMS were joined by emergency responders from surrounding communities, and risked their own safety in their efforts.

We will await the family’s decision on any announcements for funeral or memorial service and will share that information when available. The Mayor’s Charity Trust Fund will be making a donation to the family to help with costs during this time and anyone wishing to donate may do so through a GoFund Me page which the family has set up at the link below.

Last night our Police Chaplain Corps was called into action and many local members of the clergy responded to the park to comfort friends , family members , residents and first responders. Today the schools have brought in grief counselors and the Borough Chaplain Corps remains available for anyone who needs comfort or prayer.
