Can’t wait for all the inflation on things to occur as well
Rob Hahn stop that’s nonsense why would you think that….. it could be that people like me and you have a grasp of basic economics….
Rob Hahn exactly. Or less jobs. Either way it’s only going to get worse
My child’s day care is going up $100 a month to make up for increased wages. So yeah inflation begins.
Michael Sounds like they are using that little increase to fleece their clients. You are falling for it.????
Rob Hahn sky zone already did ????
Jim Oelfke that’s why congress should force retailers to high more full time workers instead making colleagues refuse to vote or not show for work.
Rob Hahn the inflation has been happening
Their has not been a increase in 8 years!!!! My rent has gone up 349$ since then!! Think about someone living on minimum wage, even with overtime they couldn’t survive.
sooooo ITS TIME
Rob Hahn shouldn’t it just be CEOs not making Millions of dollars in bonuses for doing nothing!
Justine Rose Gargano minimum wage isn’t nor was it ever meant to be a living wage. It’s for people entering the working world. If someone isn’t going to better themselves via education or trade then minimum wage is all their entitled to. I sure hope minimum skills are going to increase along w the minimum wage
Bernie Neuhaus ignorance is bliss
Some people are not fortunate enough to have a high IQ with a support system so they need a place to live after slaving to feed Americans their Big Mac
Greed is a ugly thing in this country
Bernie Neuhaus that’s not true at all. Go back and read what FDR said when he passed minimum wage. Here is a clip right from him talking about the bill.
Also. A company can no longer legally ask your salary history
Derek Andrew

I don’t get how you think by raising the minimum wage solves anything…you get paid minimum wage for having no skill. You get paid more for actually having a background that applies to a specialty. Flipping burgers requires minimal training…you want more money…make yourself worth it by actually having a skill worth being paid for.
Rob Hahn you do realize though that some skilled workers salary is based off of the minimum wage table. Or that not everyone has the opportunity to finish college, and if they do make that education possible, landing a career that will actually put a roof above their head isn’t just handed to them. Unfortunately we live in an economy where you need two full time jobs that pay more than minimum wage just to pay the rent or mortgage. If you happen to be a single parent even buying gas for your car to get to a job can be a struggle. Since I understand I’m talking to a crowd that thinks with a tiny bit of elbow grease everyone should have a happy shiny life, single parents are more than just people who make less than a smart decision. Some single parents and those who may not have had the luxury of education are in those positions far beyond their control. So yes. Raising minimum wage may hurt some businesses and that seems unfair. At the same time watching people work tirelesly to provide a simple life for themselves and their family and still be unable to afford basic necessities is not ok either. The cost of living continues to increase while a working wage has been stagnant for way too long.
Hopefully with the ability to actually pay bills becomes a possiblity for people, the ability to frequent those small businesses also becomes a possibility.
I don’t get raises like this. I make 29 bucks an hour and slowly everyone will catch up to my wage and I will go from comfortable to can’t afford a cheese burger. But hey I bring home 1300 every week.
I’d love to see any of you babies last ONE shift at a restaurant ????
Dennis Willard. Lmfao. Oh the horrors GTFOH
I work in a jail….and I’ve worked in a restaurant…I’m also a veteran….so tell me again who would last
You think by the minimum wage increasing your bills get paid… cool. Because when the price of milk increases because now everything else increases. That’s how inflation works. Thevalue of the dollar decreases. Don’t worry you’ll see it happen slowly but surely. One day you’ll look at your paycheck and be like I don’t get it I make more money but everything costs more so it’s like you didn’t even get a raise. But what do I know.
Joianne Fraschilla what u fail to realize is raising minimum wage isn’t going to get people to be able to pay their Bills. Sure that would work fine if you think the business owners are going to just take that added labor cost out of their profit margins…. but the are not going to do that. Businesses will get the margins they want therefore, if minimum wage increases, guess what also increases….. the cost of goods. If I normally sell a product for “X” dollars, and u step in and tell me I HAVE to pay more labor, fine…. i am now selling that same product for “Z” dollars.
Now, that person that is so happy their wage increased and will have all this extra money goes to the store, on the way there, stops for gas. Humm gas raised 70 cents from yesterday? Shit there went 10 bucks of that “extra” money I had…. ok onto the store…. need milk eggs cheese butter… wow, milk went up 1.20 a gallon, wow cheese is now 8.50, butter now 7 bucks jesus, there just went 30 extra bucks I thought I had, get home open the phone bill, cable, electric gas… wow, all these bill went up…. now I’ve just spent ALL of the extra money I thought I had and even an extra 15 percent more than I had to before the minimum wage increase….
But guess what….. the businesses are still getting their profits… just charging more for their services….
Open you eyes and minds people.
See this is a more in depth explanation of what I was trying to say…but I’m cooking dinner so I made it short. Thanks Josh
Rob Hahn oh and by the way “John” was excited he was about to get wage increases, but he doesn’t perform quite as well as “paul”. A great worker none the less but now the employer needs to cut one staff member due to minimum wage hike. HE CUTS “JOHN” now that wage hike John was so happy about made it to where Paul sees less money out of his check after all Bill’s and groceries are paid and it also left John unemployed….
THANKS FOR THE MINIMUM WAGE HIKE… WHAT A GREAT IDEA THAT WAS????????????????
Rob Hahn , state can collect more tax
People don’t realize that either. Don’t people understand it’s all smoke and mirrors. Its like the casino…yeah you may win here or there but they are making money otherwise why would they be in business. The state already make all the calculations…it’s gonna benefit them.
The more you make…the more they take
Don’t you understand when they raise wages tax revenue for the state increases? That’s all this is about…….. Take when you would normally get a raise of a dollar…. You only see $0.70 of it…. The other $0.30 is tax…..
I wrote a long reply about how I know what I talk about first hand and yada yada. It’s not worth it though. I enjoy this page for numerous reasons. The political side of it however I usually stay away from. Suddenly I remember why.
Rob Hahn seems like everyone wants to compare the minimum wage worker to their own job…. if you’re upset your job that requires skill is close to $15 an hour be mad at the person actually paying you not the state ?! Also suppose all these “high school based jobs” should only be open when school hours are over since a 45 year old trying to make a buck is shunned for it. It doesn’t even go to $15 an hour for another 4 years.
It devalues the higher wage jobs. Somebody puts in their time to achieve a higher wage only for it to be devalued by this law.
Rob Hahn exactly
Rob Hahn spot on 1000% … And if your only earning minimum wage you’ve got no business starting a family as you cannot properly provide for them.
Now if they would stop insisting on drivers license required for hiring the right people. I know to many have like many things, ruined it for others..But give me a chance ????
Christian Yannazzone well I guess they expect you to be reliable and be able to get work
Laura Schneider Lange that’s a fact. But unlike most. I am
First wave of closing stores also starts today.
Pat That started happening years ago. But the stores that are successful make billions and work their employees to death. It has nothing to do with a much needed cost of living increase
Debit, WRONG.
Jim Carruthers actually they have been pulling out as soon as the increase was approved
About effing time !
Dennis Willard or you can actually learn a skill or trade
I was an over the road driver for 40 years. If you can’t afford to go eat out now because of this,go beg your cheap ass boss for a raise,or join a union.
PS…. Trade Schools are a thing of the past.
The Mexicans are the only ones who know which end of a hammer to hold, while your mongoloid child has only mastered the X-box ????????????
Yea, Dennis wrong g. But thanks for playing
And the first wave of layoffs comes next week?
10% price increases and layoffs start soon
Well then I’m about to be due for a raise to $14
Wow, most servers get a whopping $3.13 now. Always tip your servers based on their service, not on things out of their control.
Smaller tips now, people pay more for food smaller tips. Look at what has happened in Seattle.
And tip in cash even if u pay with a card
David Langworth always ????
Prepare for increased self checkout
And also starting is the increase in NJ short term disability tax. If your salaried you’ll see a smaller check then normal from now on
Yay! It’s about time! So long overdue!
As it rises, out comes fake economical n labor experts
No, people to have done research and seen the studies from Seattle and how its cost the restaurant industry
Jim Carruthers with links from credible source I bet right?
Scott show me your credible sources. What do you know about the economic impact on NJ raising the minimum wage?
Joe Barnes I got no dog in the fight except for one thing. Employers NEED to stop making things up excise wise and hire more full time help
With the minimum wage going up they can’t do that. It’s going to hurt small businesses the most. I have friends who own small shops that have had to cut hours and whole shifts just to make up the difference. BTW, if you have “no dog in the fight” keep out of the conversation, and stop being a keyboard warrior.
Joe Barnes wasn’t. I only asked a question dude Christ
It doesn’t take an expert to see writing on the wall. Its more common sense than anything..you pay workers more how do you as a business owner make money…by raising the cost of your product (s).
So everyone should get an across the board bump in rate.
And people bitch about self checkouts now. Expect twice as many very soon.
Rit Russo they were all over Walmart b4 wages increased. No correlation, working stiffs getting screwed regardless, &Walmart pays no taxes.
Which is why businesses are closing their doors and leaving Jersey.
What businesses are leaving NJ?
Sandra Petroni Antonellis houlihan just filed bankruptcy. Many more are closing as well.
I like the idea of doing the raise in small increments. I was initially against the wage being raised to 15$ bc of job loss and just unavailability. However, doing it this way will help grease the pineapple, so to speak, on business.
Colleen Lecuyer Not really it’s going to mean a lot of layoffs look what happened in Seattle and every other major city that started it
How much was the minimum wage yesterday New Jersey
Bruce Beyer ten dollars
Ok the people who have busting their ass for years are hit with new people coming making more or almost…perfect…do you really think others will get a raise? Health insurance on the rise, less days off, all BS
I love how it’s the people making a living wage that is your problem. what is wrong with this picture that people like you blame people struggling to make a living wage instead of getting mad at the greedy corporations that get enormous tax breaks from the WH, along with record bonuses for their execs. all while either not paying a living wage or closing up and still getting millions in bonuses. That is the real BS.
Sandra Petroni Antonellis couldn’t agree more… everyone is comparing their pay to the minimum wage and getting angry at the government for it. Instead of being upset with the company they work for.
I love all the comments on here that are happy for an increase. Obviously none of these people even run a business, or know how to run a business.
Jim Carruthers exactly. Thinking it’s a “good” thing…
if your business sucks so hard that you can’t afford another $3/hr to an employee, you’re mismanaging your business.
Duncan Brown the cost goes to the consumer , economics 101 –
i’m sure people will riot if a happymeal goes up 50c
Duncan Brown psssttt the employers payroll taxes and insurance go up too. It’s not just the wages.
Duncan Brown clearly you dont own a business
Duncan Brown if your skill set sucks so bad you need to rely on the states rules to give you a raise as a minimum wage employee then you can no longer work for me because I’m looking for my employees to strive to improve and move up…your fired
that’s one hell of a run-on sentence riddled with punctuation, grammatical, & spelling errors
Wages aren’t the answer it affordable housing apartments should not cost 1400-1700 a month..
Andrew Howard SERIOUSLY! Single people cant afford that.
Hours cut, lay offs
we hear the same shit every time the minimum wage goes up, and yet everything’s still humming along
Does that mean servers in NJ will get minimum wage now like the rest of the country. Its pathetic that they dont.
Scott Therrien nope we got a raise fro. 2.63 an hour to a whopping 3.13
Siobhan Jackson hows that legal getting paid under minimum wage?
Scott Therrien people in power, which is why you need to call your local representatives about it!
Scott Therrien those working on tips really get shafted
Where I work, our checks are always ZERO. So when people come in and don’t tip or tip less than 20 percent (especially bc WE have to tip a busser and food runner and bartender out of that tip) it’s disgusting.
Shannon Fenton https://www.google.com/amp/s/www.eater.com/platform/amp/2018/9/25/17886990/how-restaurants-steal-from-workers-wage-theft
Scott Therrien the rest of the country doesn’t get minimum wage as servers and if my servers did I’d have to stop tipping them because it would have to go to the new raised menu prices.
Tony Pagano Ca gets minimum wage.
CMC raised the minimum wage to $15 last month
Cort Knee is it in effect yet?
Mike Moore – yes it is.
Ann MacCormack across the board raises?
Mike Moore – nope
Ann MacCormack and theres the problem!!!!
So let me ask you this? If someone is worked their way up from minimum wage over say a period of 10 to 15 years of dedicated service to let’s say 14 per hour, now cmc raises the minimum to 15.
Should the person who has been there 15 years still make $15 per hour or do they deserve The same $5 increase and now be working at 20?
Thoughts?
they are working on giving raises across the board because of this because.
The political party that raised the wage is looking for your vote.
Leo Sprague it was in the works before Murphy
Just means Republican votes instead.
It’s gone up three times in one year!! Too much too quick
Steven Jackey I’ve worked for the same company going on 15 years. I’m currently an Operations Manager, I also have a college degree. Every time minimum wage increased I did not receive an increase. I was also salary capped for almost a decade. So now these 18 year old kids with zero experience starting out as shift supervisor trainees take home a few dollars less than I do (per hour). I Got promoted to an operations supervisor, received no raise, another year went by and I received a rating of “exceeds expectations” on my review, and again no raise. I got promoted again to an operations manager for an 8% increase over what I made as a “shift supervisor”. Raising the minimum wage is creating a mess. Anyone who voted for Murphy needs to have their heads examined. High school kids don’t need to make $15 an hour. And mid level managers should make more than $15 an hour. Because of this mess I’m not going to earn a “living wage”
Nicole Gili I agree 100 percent
I don’t understand why how they survive for $11 hour to make living expenses that’s not right! Should make more like $17 or $20 hour
Julio R Caceres Jr. Minimum wage is not intended to be a living wage. It’s for entry level employees or kids entering the workforce.
then go to school if you want that much. People who have been at a job 15 years aren’t even making 20 an hour and you all want it for bullshit
Julio R Caceres Jr. Youre right! Minimum was always meant to be bare minimum for living. If you wanted better things youd need to work more or get a higher paying job but minimum was always meant to pay the bills. These days you need 3 jobs just to stay afloat. Its not a way to live
Lisa Arendt nobody want’s more money for bullshit as you say. People are being underpaid and unappreciated at plenty of companies with experience so whatever school shit your talking about is irrelevant. Yeah you can go to school and of course get paid more in life but companies are cheap and stingy and 11$ an hour is a joke for New Jersey,15 years with a company and making under 20$ an hour is pretty shitty as well… just saying. Not feeling intitled but let’s be real here 11$ isn’t doing shit and I don’t want to hear it for kids just out of school or entry level workers because I’ve had my experience with companies that are just cheap and don’t want to pay with experience to the job so
Czajkowski Chris over 50 percent of the us is min wage workers
Steph Marie i worked 3 jobs at the same company so i got laid off my job for 34 years 3 years ago so I’m entitled my retirement then I’m not looking for job anymore nobody doesn’t want to work anyway
Czajkowski Chris then you can simply find another company that’s willing to pay you what you are worth if you feel one isn’t offering enough
Sarah Elisabeth Gabbard your incorrect
Sarah Elisabeth Gabbard Average Income in the U.S.
Recently, the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) released their report on the Usual Weekly Earnings of Wage and Salary Workers. Using information from the fourth fiscal quarter of 2018, the BLS claims that in that quarter, the median income for a full-time wage or salary worker on a weekly basis was $900. For a 40-hour work week, this translates to a yearly income of approximately $46,800. This is a 5% increase on the previous year.
https://www.brookings.edu/research/where-work-pays-how-does-where-you-live-matter-for-your-earnings/
Bernie Neuhaus of course
Gallon of milk vs gallon of gas
Since sarcasm is missed on some folk, I’ll clarify..I know small businesses are at the greatest risks.. does anyone thinks big retailers give a shit either way? Nope. Non corporate owned diners… small stores up and down the shore…small movie theaters… all I was asking was for some links for or against. Guess my sarcasm didn’t show that. I’ve worked for big retailers, small business 5-7 person mom n pops.. all rose and fell in the past twenty five plus years I’ve in this crazy workforce… it sucks when one fails but something usually takes its place. NJ IS the most recockulously expensive state in the union for so many reasons and too many to list. Inflation may happen, prices may go up. But till shit changes at the top… the shit will continue to flow downhill
Nydessa Cook Chrystianna Carrino
Caitie Dorey i know i told Chrystianna Carrino lol
Caitie Dorey so will this mean our wages will be adjusted like last time ? Lol
Ashley Miller I have no idea lol
Caitie Dorey it did I already checked on associate connection
They were juat talking about it today at work and I saw this and tagged them lol
Ashley Miller did u get more money?
Caitie Dorey gonna text u
I’m just hear to see all the middle class people recite the talking points given to them by the 1% as to why this is a bad idea. ????♂️
Dan Staples its a small business killer…get your facts right
So if the min wage was 8 and now it’s 11 if you already make 11 do you go up to 14?
Jordan DiGuardi Probably not lol
most will give you 25¢
Nope!
a bunch of whiners all of which are making more than minimum wage no doubt.
Sandra Petroni Antonellis Yes because we worked our asses off for it! Earn it.
Terry Raymond Eisenbrey ok karen
Terry Raymond Eisenbrey you think they aren’t earning it? Maybe a single mom trying to raise a kid? Or who knows a persons story or why they are working a minimum wage job.
I thought 11 an hr was 2021 and they wanted 15 by 2025
Steven Michael Fowler July 1 went to $10 Jan 1 went to $11, will raise $1 each year until it hits $15.
Wow that is awesome, said everyone who lives in 1990.
And minimum wage jobs are going away. Be careful what you wish for.
Bry Pino yep! Replaced by machines!
I’m all for a living wage however, how do you like self checkout? Automation over the long haul is cheaper for the bigger employers that can afford to replace minimum wage employees.
As all our property taxes go up , our gas tax will probably increase… this state is a JOKE anymore !
About time
Yeah but I can make more claiming to be illegal. Btw, does anyone know how to go about claiming that status? Asking for a friend.
As of today the dollar menu is the 2 dollar menu
Will $15 an hour in 2024 be commiserate with the NJ cost of living?
