Lacey: On December 15, 2019, at 1741 hours, the Lacey Township Police Department responded to the area of Lacey Road and Holmes Avenue for a vehicle that struck a pedestrian. Preliminary investigation revealed a female was attempting to cross Lacey Road from south to north when she was struck in the eastbound lane by a 2011 Jeep Patriot operated by David Winkle, 40, Forked River.

The female pedestrian is approximately 67 years of age, and investigators are still attempting to confirm her identification. The pedestrian was flown to Jersey Shore University Medical Center with serious bodily injury. Upon transport she was alert but unable to supply a positive identification.

David Winkle was arrested for DWI and was transported to Community Medical Center in Toms River where a Blood Draw Search Warrant was later executed. Motor vehicle and criminal charges are pending. Anyone having information that may be helpful in confirming the pedestrian’s identity is asked to call the Lacey Township Police Department at 609-693-6636, extension 2578.

The Ocean County Prosecutor’s Office FAST Team, Ocean County Sheriff’s Department CIU, MONOC Paramedics, Lacey Township First Aid Squad also responded.
