Fire crews from Whiting, Ridgeway, Manchester, Lakehurst and the Joint Base responded to the scene at 13 Rabbit Court in the Pine Ridge section of town.
When police and firefighters arrived, they observed smoke and flames emanating from the side of the residence. They immediately confirmed that the lone resident of the household was not inside, but that several family pets were.
Once the fire was extinguished, officials learned that nine cats perished in the blaze.
EMT’s from Quality Medical Transport also responded.
There were no injuries reported at the scene.
The cause of the fire is unknown at this point but a full investigation is now underway by the Ocean County Fire Marshall’s Office and Manchester Police Detective Adam Emmons.

MANCHESTER: Earlier Structure Fire…is this the same story ?????
Heard all the fire trucks was wondering what happened, so sad and those poor kitties. I think if something happened like that to me I’d be more upset over losing my kitties.

9 cats! And will this person be charged for having 9 cats? Is there a max a person can have? We will never know if these poor cats were healthy or not ????. Not looking for anyone’s ridiculous comments about “they lost their home” these cats lost their lives.
Whiting FD saved 1 of the cats. The cats were in good health. It hasn’t been released how the fire started yet. Her having 9 is the result of uncaring people. These uncaring people dump the cats to fend for themselves when they clean out their parents home when they die or move. So you want her charged for caring for these poor kitties. She did what others turned their backs to. Shelters are crowded and older kitties don’t have much of a chance. Fire could have started in any home whether it be 2 or 10 animals. People need to stop the fingerpointing.

Kim Ayer Sullivan So it would be better if the 9 cats had lived on the streets with no food source or shelter. Learn the circumstances of the fire before you attack the integrity of the homeowner.
If my neighbors house burned the number would be more like 30
