Another pronouncement just came over the radio for an unknown town. It was for a well-being check for an elderly resident. RP advises there are a day or two’s worth of Meals on Wheels food on the step. When entry was finally made, the death was apparent.
Please try to check on your sick and elderly family and neighbors daily. Even a phone call to ensure they’re okay. We hear these kind of calls all too often this time of year.
Ok meals on wheels after 1 day not picking up you should have called for help!!!!

Why would Meals on Wheels just leave food???Very sad!!
Karen Brower McCutcheon bc… if someone doesn’t answer, they could be sleeping or in the bathroom…. better to leave the food than take it back
Sharon Lynn Huber , true EXCEPT on the 2nd day. Come on!!!!
At least make phone calls until the elderly answers to confirm they’ve received their meal.
They are not allowed to leave meals with out seeing the person.
It says 2 days of meals..no excuse not to have someone do a welfare check…except for the person delivering not giving a shit.
I am a therapist in seniors homes. One in particular tells me that if she doesn’t answer her door for MOWs they call them and then the police. I’m surprised this happened .
Robin Clinch Aniboli this makes me happy to hear
So sad
Meals on wheels are not allowed to leave the meals at the front door. (My mom gets them so I know) by the 2nd day do you think it should have been apparent to the driver that something was wrong?
The article doesnt specify who called so I’m going to assume innocence and say that meals on wheels called for the wellness check…
Sarah Lynn
Just a third party neighbor was the caller I believe.
???????????????? Not good
My gpa was found by meals on wheels because they were smart enough to try the doorknob and found the door unlocked. He had passed in the evening. ????
Whoever the meals on wheels driver was needs to be fired .. how can you possibly keep leaving meals for an elderly and not call police or the customer the 1st time of an attempt to leave a meal..
Yhis is horrible
Madalyn Palmadesso no one should say anyone should be fired
Scott A Barnes we each have our own opinion
Madalyn Palmadesso 100% correct!!
Madalyn Palmadesso they’re volunteers
Ok and that means what?? They cant call the cops or for help?? Idc what they are they shouldnt be working there anymore
Fired??? That’s pretty harsh to say… you don’t know the details, do you?
Do you ?
or it wasn’t MOW..other organizations have this service too. Everyone uses MOW as like a generic.
Mary Scheper VanDeventer
Good Point
Can not really blame MOW, I would think they knock or ring the bell but what if the folks are just simply not at home. But yes, if they found a day old meal still on the steps, someone should have made a call, even a neighbor. IMHO
Tim Reid I believe you have to be home to get MOW… if you don’t answer they let someone know..
Sad…RIP
I would think whatever food program…they would bring food indoors for the person not just leave on the stoop…at least that way they may have known something was wrong sooner.
Why didn’t meals on wheels check after first day’s
R.I.P. prayers for family????????
So sad…RIP…
They normally do not leave meals on wheels if you don’t answer the door , you have to be home or they won’t leave it so not sure why there were meals left outside. They require you to call to cancel if you do t come to the door , then they call you to see why you didn’t cancel . I’m sure they alert the Police if they can’t get hold of the person
That’s a shame if the previous days meals on wheels is still on the porch they should check on them!!!
So sad don’t know why no one Check and wine Meals on Wheels left them Meals on that porch without investigate so sad????????
God rest their soul. Please let it be the last report about this… colder days are coming. The elderly are in need of higher heating temperatures and can feel a chill in temperatures even in the 60 degree area… human’s skin get’s thinner as we age also there are other underlying health conditions existing as well that contribute.
Negligence on the part of MOW. Guess volunteers need training now to deliver meals???
