Toms River: On Wednesday December 5, 2019, Toms River Police Units responded to the Walmart (950 Route 37 West) for a report of a deceased party located in the wood line on the west side of the property. Upon arrival, the decedent was identified as Mary Tomasuolo, a 56 year old homeless female.
A subsequent investigation by the Toms River Police Department Detective Bureau and The Ocean County Sheriff’s Department CSI Unit revealed no signs of foul play. The investigation is ongoing at this time.

This is extremely sad. I know we all have our issues with some of each others posts, but a death sucks & even more when it’s a homeless person, regardless if cause of death is drugs or not. The homeless mainly use drugs to escape if they havent lost everything because of drugs. Most lost their homes because of loss of jobs, marriages & yes drugs. It’s terrible. I was homeless & fought hard to get to where I’m at today. A beautiful home, beautiful children, beautiful wife & because I always had that I should always help thought, I opened a 501c3 Nonprofit to help the homeless. I’m not here to promote my Nonprofit in anyway, just putting it out there because a homeless person lost their life. We need to help one another for a fair chance at life. Troll for fun tho.

Michael Howlett That’s great. I think the sad part is no matter the shelter or help you try to give, many refuse it. My friend and I delivered blankets to the camp off Rt 9 in Howell last year before it moved I think. I wonder how many would move into housing if it were offered ?
I also donated goods to Destinys Bridge. One of my long term goals & through some grants I want to open a shelter. If housing was offered roughly 75% of the homeless would take it, the ones that wants to be homeless or the defiant choose to live the life they live, but they do accept help from time to time. I think the main focus other than shelter, good & clothing is jobs, career building seminars, healthcare & education. The more that’s offered the more help can be offered. I also intend to get more organizations involved with each other instead of “competing” for donations along with trickling up the donations to the Board of Directors. It’s a nonprofit for a reason.

Sarah Jane We have a tremendous homeless community here in Ocean County and more specifically Toms River. Until Code Blue went into effect and the facility at Riverwood was open there was nothing. Our homeless were rounded up and brought to either Atlantic City or a location in Monmouth County. People are homeless for many reasons but many of our homeless do work they just can’t afford a permanent place to live. We need to make sure that our community supports each other. These aren’t strangers that rolled into town. They are regular people who fell upon hard times and need support until they can get on their feet. Winter nights under a warm roof and a hot meal is a not a lot to ask.

Lord knows many of us have tried to work on more shelter for the homeless and more benefits, there really are not any excuses that the counties and states have to not provide. If not before, for sure on judgment day they will be held accountable unless they repent and make amends. EVERY person deserves to have a roof over their head, food on their plate and medical attention. The amount of wealth that we have only takes a willingness to make it happen. That’s for real. There are no excuses that are truth filled at all. None.

I am mad at the county and state Ms. Gerri. I hope you realize I am sad that Mary passed and am saying there is not any excuse the law makers have and her death, along with many others that have passed because of homelessness, -they will be held accountable for – because they can do something about it- they just have chosen not to. I myself have been in the woods helping the homeless as well as serving on committees that are working to bring an end to homelessness. I care very much about the outcomes of people’s lives.
RevTracie Plungis as do I and I advocate as well but many times the homeless choose to remain homeless. When I was a teen I befriended a homeless man. He was a schizophrenic and refused to take his meds. Before his disease developed he had been an attorney. He left his career and family and there wasn’t anything anyone could do.
Until we change the way we treat the ill and addicted I’m afraid there isn’t much we can accomplish to help the majority. We don’t help people to prevent homelessness either. There’s much that can be fixed but so many won’t reach into their own pockets to help someone else and many times those that do hand it to the wrong people in charge. I pray not only for the homeless but for the world. ❤️❤️

This just breaks my heart. We can’t even take care of each other, but we can spend thousands of dollars to impeach the President. Sick country!!
Best way to get shelter in Ocean County is at the Polls..Vote out the Ratpublicans that have let this happen.

When it comes to homeless New Jersey sucks and so does the county. this country should not have homeless people there are other countries that allow homeless people to do community service in exchange for money or shelter. the fact that this country can’t get it together and with all the money we have in this country whether we re I’m dead or not we’re funding wars, walls and stupidity when we should be building homeless shelters or using stand-alone buildings for homeless people to go and live and so they have somewhere to go during bad weather but instead the building sit empty and this country doesn’t give a shit about homeless people especially the veterans.
Yet they give illegals shelter, food and money! Our citizens deserve better than that from our government!
This is why, I always say take care of our own first and then others. But some ppl bash me because I think that way. I’m not sorry. A lot of the homeless or starving ppl in this country are our VETs. And it’s disgusting!!! May this lady be at peace now ????

A homeless person is a human being with a beating heart. A little compassion goes a long way. Those who turn their noses up at the misfortune should be ashamed of themselves. Be the change you want to see in the world and lend a hand.

This is tragically sad. I’ve learned that shelters are avoided due to aggression, theft and violence towards women. On the surface it’s a cot, a meal and a break from being outside 24/7 especially in this cold time of the year. Women are more likely to avoid shelters, violent ex partners often search shelters and other homeless men prey upon the women. Women’s Shelters…SAFE and controlled women ONLY shelters are what’s needed! The subculture of the homeless is dangerous and often violent.
