TOMS RIVER – Two people are dead in what can only be described as a bizarre accident involving a vehicle that went airborne into the second floor of a building in the township.
Ocean County Scanner News was the first to report the incident before it became national news with NBC News reporting on the story.
Toms River Township Police Chief Mitch Little told Jersey Shore Online that the vehicle, identified as a Porsche, was traveling at a high rate of speed on the northbound side of Hooper Avenue near Indian Hill Road when it lost control, hit the center median and ended up in the second story of the Exit Realty office at 1466 Hooper Avenue.
Little confirmed officers arrived on scene at around 6:34 a.m on Sunday, November 10.
On Sunday afternoon, police confirmed that 22-year-old Braden DeMartin of Toms River was behind the wheel of the 2010 Porsche Boxster convertible when the crash happened. Both DeMartin and his passenger 23-year-old Daniel Foley of Toms River were both found dead inside the vehicle when police arrived.
Police spokesperson Jillian Messina said Toms River Building Inspector John Gerrity deemed the building unsafe. Also assisting on scene were Ocean County Prosecutors Office, Toms River Fire Company Stations 29 & 30, Toms River Technical Rescue Task Force, Brick Technical Rescue Task Force, Toms River Office of Emergency Management, Ocean County Fire Coordinators, Silverton EMS, and the Ocean County Sheriffs Department.
Hooper Ave between Indian Hill Rd and College Drive was closed for roughly 7 hours between 6:30 AM and 1:30 PM.
Ocsn always has to write “first to report” like it actually matters. When really the person who saw it and called the police technically were first to report.

Chris Golden I had a feeling they be young that’s sad
Jay Jensen
My heart breaks for them and their families, I have a 21 year old and this is horrific, God Bless them all ????
Pedro Montes
Who cares pray for their families!!
There has to be footage of this with all the cameras in the area
Sad for their families and friends life will never be the same the holidays will never be the same prayers to all of them ??????
Erika Beck
This is very sad for the passenger since he had no control on the way the driver decided to drive. In my opinion I feel that we now have a nut off the roads in terms of the driver , however no thought was given by the driver that his loved ones have to live with this accident.
Walter Hertz I think that’s opinionated. They were out together and choose to go home and act erratic. Bad situation god speed to the families no one wants to go through this.
????
This is so sad for all involved ??
A heavy price to pay for a foolish mistake. Heart goes out to the families
No matter what happened, they are no longer with us. Tragic end of 2 young lives and families and friends forever heartbroken. Their not my kids but I grieve over the loss. So sorry your lights are no more. ?
VI Horvath perfectly said.
Prayers to them and their families
let this be a lesson to those that drive fast cars and think this cant happen to them. yes it can. not driving 100+ miles an hour will keep you alive.
Melissa Magabilin RN stop being a douchebag
Melissa Magabilin RN not needed nor necessary.
But why over 100mph on hooper ave??? Unless there’s veh error, this horrible tragedy was avoidable .
that was no vehicle error. It was unfortunately driver error
Mary Wissel so avoidable . Sad for those families.
A very high cost to pay for showing off.
My heart aches for their families. I can’t even imagine their pain.
Young ones think they’re invisible.
My teens friend (new driver at 18) was going over 100mph on prkwy in TR. Thankfully she was pulled over and ticketed. Judge suspended her license. Hopefully it’s a lesson learned. Her reasoning? “No one else was on the rd” didn’t occur to her that she could have lost control of the vehicle
Sharon Lynn Huber happens way too often.
Hope this ones a lesson learned to all the speeders out there.
What is a 23 year old doing with a Porsche? So sad both young people had to die because of careless driving. My heart aches for the families…..a tragedy that could have been avoided.
Doreen Gesslein that’s what I said…who would let a 22 year old drive that car? This is horrible ????so heartbroken for the families ????
Families that have ? .
Wasnt it his fathers car?? Why would he allow a 22 year old to drive it. Dumb
Linda Marie what the fuck does it matter whos car it is?! its a porche boxter its not a ferarri, the slowest porche their is this could have happened in your hundai genesis.
Linda Marie ps yeah. lets judge his fathers parenting skills real fucking proactive. his family has to live with this shit for the rest of their lives they don’t need complete strangers second guesing their decisions.
Doreen Gesslein you’re not victim blaming are you?
Linda Marie and you are who or what to say?
Really Linda Marie,
This is not the time for anyone to be acting judge and jury!!
Shame on you as the familys and friends are mourning the deaths you are judging 2 young men and their families ,its really very insensitive of you !!
None of us are promised tomorrow !
Obviously you never had a tragic death in your family or you would know how heartbreaking it is and the last thing any family needs while they are mourning is some one judging those who died.
Those 2 young men are not hear to defend themselves against you or other who have no sense to keep these diabolical comments to yourself .
Scott A Barnes …..of course not….seems like you’re twisting what I said in my post.
Brendan Parisi yeah ok..whatever car..its their immaturity and reckless behavior that led to this horrible accident. Thank God that no innocent people were involved!
Scott A Barnes are you a parent?
Scott A Barnes Well who’s fault is it if not for the victims, the Holy Ghost?
Brendan Parisi Not really
Brendan Parisi Well it may help save other lives
Linda Marie and others you real and others need to shut it ,the family and one of the victims GF has seen and aware of all your horrible comments !
What’s done is done and nothing can undo or bring back those 2 young men, let the family grieve in peace and come totems of what happened. Please have some respect!!
Shame on you !!
You know some media outlets are posting the comments from.different groups and pages what people are saying !
Have some common sense, decency and empathy and , need to act like a grown up !
Any life taken is a tragedy no matter what and those that have lost family members understand that !!
Let those with out any flaws or sin be the first to cast the first stone !
Scott A Barnes It IS the victims fault.
Ridiculous!
My thoughts are with the families but this gos to show everyone you dont buy a inexperienced driver a high end sports car!! I seen a young kid almost lose it in a yellow Camaro ss trying to launch at a light thankfully he let his foot off the gas.. he could’ve took out all 3 lanes of traffic on 37
Robert Haas he was show boating it obvious it doesnt matter what car he was in this would have happened car doesnt decide gownyou drive the driver does
Michael Sweezy most cars have speed governors, Porsches do not. So it is much more dangerous to put a younger, less mature driver in a car that has that kind of potential.
Marni your right but if you buy a programmer and install it in any car its made for it deletes the governor
Michael Sweezy i understand where your coming from granted i was young at one time too and unfortunately i was raised by raceing you show boating or not you gotta learn and feel how your car reacts its just doesn’t happen overnight.. can i get into a racecar that im not familiar with and do 100 plus miles per hour no i would not I’d have to get the feel of it..
Marni Peterson Kociban Most cars do not have speed governor’s where did you get that from
Rental trucks have governors not cars
Rental trucks have governors not cars
Sad for their families..
??
Reminds me of Paul Walker from fast & the furious
Steven Michael Fowler not really
Steven Michael Fowler fyi Paul wasnt the driver in that crash that he died in
David Stebner Never said he was but it was a porch that was speeding.
Steven Michael Fowler don’t forget Ryan Dunn also
Two families are shattered ..
Stop with all the ridiculous comments!!!! The family of all involved are grieving.
Kerry Camarato amen ? all the self righteous people:… go to bed tonight knowing it wasn’t your family member…just remember…. it was someone’s family member…….
Do stupid things win stupid prizes. Driving over a 100 mph like this you are looking for trouble I have no sympathy for people who put others lives in danger. They could have killed someone else on the road
Sean Mcelroy I’m with you
I’m with you as well
Exactly
Sean Mcelroy like your post?
Scott A Barnes my post didn’t endanger anyone those too bone heads did
???
Also pray for the first responders who had to remove the boys from car they won’t forget for a long time
I only feel bad for all the first responders and crew
Praying for the family but what I don’t understand is why go that fast at that section of Hooper with the road bending right there and yes there is no road that you should be going that fast
Sending prayers to the family RIP to the both young men
Tragic…
Let’s pray for the parents. ?. It is heart breaking to lose your child. I should know I almost did. So pray for these parents to have strength to overcome this horrible tragedy of losing your child.
It’s to late for your judgement so stop.
One Stupid Mistake Cost Them Everything! , Such A Waste Of Life!
U mean 2 people driving reckless..that’s how the car went air borne..
Innocent people could have died due to these morons..thank god it was only them..
Sorry for the family but not sorry either. Play stupid and deserve the penalty. I got a DUI once and LEARNED thankfully had that chance. Never again. Wont endanger others. These 2 did. Paid the price unfortunately. BTW kids these age shldnt fuckin have a car like that. When i was a kid i said the SAME THING. Dont have the experience or maturity to handle that type of car. Shame on the dumb fuckin father
