A group of convicted sex offenders in Butts County Georiga are suing their local Sheriffs Department for requiring them to display signs on their lawns stating “No Trick Or Treating At This Address”. The convicted sex offenders are reporting that they were told they would face unspecified trouble if they did not comply. Do you think this goes too far or should all towns adopt the same policy?

Nope. Think what you want about the offender, but everybody has rights. If this policy is enacted during sentencing, cool. After the fact is a scary precedent that will allow all of us to lose rights, at the expense of law enforcement.

I think it would be better to distinguish whether a person was convicted of anything that involved a minor. Or if they were convicted for rape. A person who gets caught peeing in public today would have to register as a sex offender. I don’t think they should have to announce that to entire world.
