Toms River: Sheriff Mastronardy gave the all clear, and the Ocean County Sheriffs Department has officially turned on their new radios. They are the latest agency to move off the old 500 MHz Trunked System and onto the new Digital 700 MHz Trunked System. Just before 14:00 this day dispatch advised all officers to switch to the NEW OCSO1 on the new system. Followed by silence, and Staff 1 (Mastronardy) giving the all clear. You can hear the audio of the switch over below.

The new talkgroup is 5001 for OCSO1, and is currently a simulcast between both systems. OCSO1 is currently being heard on the old system, but that is simply a temporary patch until the department is satisfied the new radios are working 100%. Staff 01 here at OCSN is expecting to meet with Sheriff Mastronardy next week to discuss plans for encryption on the new system channels.

Now is a great time to buy a Phase 2 Digital Trunking Scanner from us here at OCSN so you can keep up with the changes. January 2020 is the end-of-life date expected for the plug to be pulled on the old analog 500 MHz system.
