Lakewood: Bingo Wholesale is selling Kaparos / Kapparot Roosters for the holiday beginning Wednesday @ 14:00. This is in preparation for the strange Jewish ritual of slaughtering chickens on the eve of Yom Kippur. The slaughtered animals are supposed to go to a charity.
There has been a lot of discussion among residents in the county about this practice. Some are calling to protest the ritual, or at least call attention to it. Anyway, I bet there will be a crowd tomorrow at Bingo around 2:00 PM!
Do I understand this correctly? They kill these animals as to repent their own sins only to toss them in the trash? Is that not the same as wanton waste? Punishable by law? Why is this allowed to go unpunished? Where is the outrage from animal rights groups?
No, they kill them and must donate the dead rooster to a charity, don’t get that part, though roosters are not edible. That is the religious tradition of the people who buy the roosters, wonder where they keep the animal until time for slaughter?

Dave Frick can you please expound on how a chicken having been killed instantaneously by having its throat slit, is capable of bleeding to death? I don’t think someone constantly referring to Judaism in deragatory and inaccurate manner should be pretending to know about any of its rituals, customs, or laws.

Why not use the alternative – swinging money over head and donating it to charity? I wonder if the use of chickens is also a means of entertainment. That would certainly be sad. The way the young children watch, laugh and chant makes it look like entertainment and not a religious practice. Young children are so impressionable and seeing them kill a chicken may allow them to believe it’s okay to harm other animals. Please use money instead of chickens. Just my 2 cents!
