In the time it takes you to read this, someone in the US will die of kidney failure. Read that sentence again, and let it sink in. My husband and his two brothers are in KIDNEY FAILURE. This, quite bluntly, means that they are dying. The only thing keeping them alive is dialysis treatments, multiple times a week. While they are “living”, dialysis isn’t a “life”. PKD (poly cystic kidney disease) is genetic, and unpreventable. Without kidney donors, eventually they WILL die. Statistics show that 20% of the people on dialysis (700,000 in the US) die every single year. I will NOT let my family be in that 20%. Bobby was a local police officer for 25 years. He has a wife and children. Bobby (blood type A) has been on dialysis for over 4 years. Someone with A or O blood type could save his life. Rich (blood type O) has been on dialysis for over 6 years. Six long grueling years of being hooked up to a machine 3 days a week, for 4 hours at a time. Missing family events. Missing time with his wife. Simply existing while waiting for his miracle…… a living donor with O blood type. My husband Dan, the youngest brother, retired as a Lieutenant with the NJSP after 25 years of service. We are currently being trained to do dialysis treatments at home because it’s much healthier for him than going to a center. My husband will need to be on this machine four days a week, for three hours a day. I will be responsible for setting up his machine and putting the needles in his arm until he has a transplant. My husband is O blood type. Please spread the word. Help this post land in the newsfeed it needs to. Or maybe YOU are the match? One bean can run your machine, please consider giving the extra to someone who truly needs it. The wait time for a cadaver in NJ can be 10 years!!
