MANCHESTER – A head on collision on Sept. 19 on the westbound shoulder of Route 530 resulted in the injury of an 86-year-old Whiting woman and a 46-year-old man from Barnegat.
Township Police Lt. Vincent Manco reported that around 4:31 p.m. that day officers responded to Route 530 in the Whiting section of the township to investigate a reported crash involving two vehicles that collided head-on, near the intersection of Congasia Road.
Upon their arrival, the officers observed a silver 2012 Mitsubishi Lancer that had collided with a gray 2015 Toyota Sienna in the westbound lane of travel.
Each vehicle sustained extensive front-end damage. An investigation revealed that the Toyota had pulled off the roadway and stopped on the westbound shoulder of Route 530.
The Mitsubishi which had been travelling east on Route 530, crossed over the centerline at a curve in the roadway, continued across the westbound lane of travel and onto the shoulder before colliding head-on with the Toyota.
The Mitsubishi was driven by Ombra DeMaio of Whiting. DeMaio, who was driving alone, was wearing her seatbelt at the time of the accident and the Mitsubishi had front and side airbag deployment.
DeMaio sustained neck and chest injuries as a result of the collision and was transported by Life Flight Medevac helicopter to Jersey Shore Medical Center in Neptune. The woman is currently listed in critical but stable condition.
Marco Sadsad, Barnegat was identified as driving the Toyota and was its sole occupant. He was not wearing his seatbelt at the time of the collision and his car also had front and side airbag deployment.
Sadsad was transported to Community Medical Center in Toms River by Quality Medical Transport for non-life-threatening injuries.
Manco said those assisting at the scene included members of the Whiting Volunteer Fire Department, Quality Medical Transport, and MONOC Paramedics.
Further investigation of the crash is being conducted by Patrolman Michael O’Hara of the Manchester Township Traffic Safety Unit.
EIGHTY SIX….she is 86 ?
Laura Michelle should NOT be driving
Giovanna Mallozzi ?
Comes a time when gotta give that license up
She needs to 86 her license.
Liability behind the wheel
I hate to say but at a certain age people need to be retested
Jackie Sue You shouldn’t hate to say that. I agree with you and I believe that we should all be tested every four years starting at 65. And yes that includes me!
???
I hope everyone is well but at 86 you most certainly shouldn’t be driving.
I agree with the majority here that 86 is too old to be still driving. My mom gave up her license in her late 70’s and I think that was still pushing it a bit. I don’t agree however that people should be mandatorily tested at 65, that’s a little early for that in my opinion.
