Ocean County Prosecutor Bradley D. Billhimer announced that Sherod Coleman, 35, of Lakewood, pleaded guilty on Monday, September 16, 2019, to Possession with the Intent to Distribute Fentanyl in violation of N.J.S.A. 2C:35-5a(1) and N.J.S.A. 2C:35-5b(4), as well as being a Certain Person Not to Have Weapons in violation of N.J.S.A. 2C:39-7b, before the Honorable Michael T. Collins, J.S.C. The State will be recommending a sentence of seven years in New Jersey State Prison with a forty-two month period of parole ineligibility on the Fentanyl charge, as well as a concurrent sentence of five years with no parole eligibility on the weapons charge. Coleman is scheduled to be sentenced by Judge Collins on January 31, 2020.
Coleman was arrested on September 2, 2016 following a motor vehicle stop in Lakewood Township. The stop was the result of an ongoing investigation by the Ocean County Prosecutor’s Office Narcotics Strike Force into illegal drug activity in the Lakewood area. At the time of the motor vehicle stop, Coleman was found to be in possession a significant amount of Fentanyl as well as a handgun with a high capacity magazine.
Prosecutor Billhimer wishes to acknowledge the collective efforts of the Ocean County Prosecutor’s Office Narcotics Strike Force, Lakewood Township Police Department Street Crimes Unit, and Ocean County Sheriff’s Office Crime Scene Investigation Unit in helping to secure Coleman’s guilty plea.
“being a Certain Person Not to Have Weapons in violation of N.J.S.A. 2C:39-7b” and this line and in 2016 “Coleman was found to be in possession a significant amount of Fentanyl as well as a handgun with a high capacity magazine.” So tell me again how all these gun laws in the world are going to help when Criminals don’t care about the law, to begin with.
Tim Reid Amen!! Ive been saying this to anyone who spews out the words “Stricter gun laws”
If fentanyl (the deadliest drug known to mankind) is being past around like candy on street corners for as low as $5 dollars a bag, how the F**k does anyone in their right minds actually believe that Stricter gun laws is going to stop guns from killing people?
Tim Reid but you dont hear those same people saying (ban fentanyl).
At least 3,163 people died of drug overdoses in New Jersey in 2018.
That’s more than the population of Saddle River. It’s more than the student body at St. Peter’s University in Jersey City. It’s more than the number of people killed by the flu, homicides, car accidents and suicides in 2016, combined!
Tim Reid and so often these dirtbag drug dealers get less time than an honest gun owner who accidentally violates some technical law with no malicious intent. Watch this scum plead away the gun charge and get 2-3 years for the opioid.
Peter Bibby i was going to say that same thing too.
