A story published on the Toms River Shorebeat informs readers that the County is looking to improve the bottleneck on Brick Boulevard South heading into Silverton. They’re going to spend money on a study when the answer is already clear. The plans were to extend Shorrock to Church, and then ultimately to an extended Fischer Boulevard. These plans were scrapped years ago, but maybe it’s time to revisit them? As you can see from the diagrams below- the rights of Way have already been obtained through Holiday City.

If we improve those roads, build a GSP off-ramp on southbound for Exit 83, it will help too. Everyone gets off in Lakewood to avoid Exit 82. We also could have used the GSP Interchange in Church Road.

County Route 549 is functionally obsolete and needs to be three lanes. Have a third lane going South that turns right into Church Road. That will keep traffic flowing through Yorktowne and avoid motorists cutting through Holiday City.

What do you all think would help?

The diagrams below were made by OCSN to show how the original plans were to extend Shorrock Street to Church Road. The rights of Way were already issued with the land cleared through Holiday City Silverton.

Below shows the land cleared for the roadway extended which never happened. Now is the time to make it happen!

Connect Shorrock Street to Buckwald Drive at OCC, and extend Fischer to Buckwald.
