A story published on the Toms River Shorebeat informs readers that the County is looking to improve the bottleneck on Brick Boulevard South heading into Silverton. They’re going to spend money on a study when the answer is already clear. The plans were to extend Shorrock to Church, and then ultimately to an extended Fischer Boulevard. These plans were scrapped years ago, but maybe it’s time to revisit them? As you can see from the diagrams below- the rights of Way have already been obtained through Holiday City.
If we improve those roads, build a GSP off-ramp on southbound for Exit 83, it will help too. Everyone gets off in Lakewood to avoid Exit 82. We also could have used the GSP Interchange in Church Road.
County Route 549 is functionally obsolete and needs to be three lanes. Have a third lane going South that turns right into Church Road. That will keep traffic flowing through Yorktowne and avoid motorists cutting through Holiday City.
What do you all think would help?

The diagrams below were made by OCSN to show how the original plans were to extend Shorrock Street to Church Road. The rights of Way were already issued with the land cleared through Holiday City Silverton.
Below shows the land cleared for the roadway extended which never happened. Now is the time to make it happen!
Connect Shorrock Street to Buckwald Drive at OCC, and extend Fischer to Buckwald.
This was the plan a long time ago. They have alway had the right aways to do it they just never followed through with it. They dont need to waste more money to study anything. Just make it happen
Bryan Nightingale dig up those bodies already
Good, then the crazy traffic passing my house on Old Hooper might up ease up. People take it as a short cut and delivery trucks pass all the time when there’s no place to deliver to in the span between A street & Drum Point. Not to mention the excessive speeds that people go in a 40mph Zone. Then they get pissed off when I slow down to turn into my driveway!
What was the reasoning for those plans being scrapped? At a glance it seems like a reasonable solution

$273,000 for nothing?
Ocean County Scanner News since this light timing study was supposed to “fix” the traffic on hooper. I’d say nothing
Adam Michael
I agree

Adam Michael investigate the company and the connections to the freeholders. ?
There is just too much traffic period. All this does is relocate it onto Church which is already overloaded. then adding more traffic to New Hampshire and then Rt 9.The shore traffic gets off in Lakewood, down Shorrock, Beaverson and onto 549. . They just built that unfilled mall in Silverton to add more congestion to that area. How do you extend Shorrock without removing all the Seniors that live in the way? It’s a cluster F. Adding more lanes will just make for more traffic. look at the parkway. 4 lanes of parking.
Tim Reid
Nobody needs to be relocated- right of Way is already there.
Tim Reid seems like they would just need to make some improvements to Old Toms River rd where Lake Riviera is and there’d be no issue the rest of the way.
Ocean County Scanner News I can where they can squeeze it in there but the voting block in Yorktown may stop it. Not sure how well they are going support a four lane road through their quiet development especially the poor folks that will have it in their backyard. Also the lights that will be needed at the cross streets.
looks like my mom will have it right in her backyard of her newly purchased home on Acapulco. lol
Or maybe have the traffic lights work together instead of against. ?
Exactly. The light at Church is red and Yorktown is green. Can’t go anywhere so traffic just backs up. The light by Pavillions is out of sync as well
I hate that traffic area I get stuck in it aallllll the time and everyone uses the far right lane for holiday city to jump in front of everyone Who needs to go into Holiday city because no one can wait the damn turn
Patricia Lorraine Zennario
I wish Brick PD would sit and ticket those assholes who cut in at the last minute!
Ocean County Scanner News they are only there maybe once a month. they can make alot of money if someone is there every day
Patricia Lorraine Zennario if they can’t put up camera to catch this people and send them a ticket.
Take all the tolls off the exit and entrance ramps between herbertsville and toms River, lose the toms River toll booth and your traffic problem is cured.
I used to drive from Newark to 37 and from 37 to Newark for $1.10 each way.
Now it costs me a dollar fifty to go from Tom’s River to barnegat
Just wait until the new shopping plaza opens! Thanks to everyone who approved that! That will be an absolute nightmare, and I am sure NO ONE who approved that lives in Silverton and has to take that way home every day! Something needs to be done to get us home. Poor planning as the population increases here. Do something instead of having builders build more strip malls (that will be empty) and figure out how to make the traffic pattern better. Funny how the new mall had a lane built on Hooper Ave…I don’t believe that was in the original plans?
Michael Tatulli now that your moving they’ll fix the problem for you heading home! Ol
Kevin Owens lol
If it’s already been cleared, I wonder what political nonsense stopped the construction….

Worst part of my commute home is Hooper Ave!
Yes please
I remember hearing years ago, Ficsher Blvd was supposed to extend to parkway. This would alleviate traffic off 37 and Hooper/Rte 70 areas.
Just wasting more money. Do what needs to be done. That is going to happen on rt 537 near GA. They will keep spending money on “traffic Flow” instead of doing it.
Or just make a prkwy exit onto church by the dump
Werent they supposed to add an exit southbound by homedepot on 9? The beef is there is no exit. I get off in brick and drive all the to the mall basically because fuck getting off at rt 37
Kyle Shouldice yup
Sean Cummings right, would take a week.
Kyle Shouldice if the crew from 9 and 37 isn’t doing it than yea.
So very glad we moved out of that area into Manchester.
Walter Hertz and there’s no traffics on 70? lol
sure there is on 70, but for the most part we are on 37
Walter Hertz better yet… there’s traffic there too
Walter Hertz Last year I was going to buy there, instead I bought in HCB, glad I did now.
So after you the new plaza a thumbs up on their entrance design and exits ,NOW you want to look at the traffic congestion .problem.when u could have taken property from there and the Exxon and made another lane.to late now ,good foresight. Add a two lane turn off church to Hooper north bound and align the timing on all the lights and while you’re at it start a program to do that county wide.
How about a overpass over Silverton….no lights
I thought that’s why they did all that construction years ago….didn’t help.
My sister is convinced everyone goes to Charlie Browns. Magically clears then!!
Those seniors are not going to be very happy having a racetrack on their backyard.
