A popular debate among neighborhood chat groups always revolves around getting gas at a convenience store- and going inside the store while your vehicle is filling up. Recently someone asked Wawa via a Tweet this very question, and they replied. Their Twitter account said “Affirm” meaning that customers ARE indeed permitted to leave their vehicles to get gas with the attendant while they go inside. This has perturbed many fans as it is often considered to be rude and selfish. People are waiting for an empty gas pump, and a patron is taking a leisurely shopping trip while their vehicle occupies a space long after the pump shuts off. Combine this with the usual blocking off of pumps when the store is short-staffed, and you have a reduced amount of working gas pumps.
There you have it- Wawa says you can be rude and selfish. Is it really that hard to park your car after you get gas and do your shopping though?
Anyway, please feel free to debate if you think this is acceptable and okay!
I do it all the time.
It’s rude. If there is a line to get gas why do we have to wait for you.
Depends how much your getting if its only $5 just sit a min n wait but if its 10+ run in
Lloyd Lizzkid Namirrem mine take $75+ to fill so yeah, not sitting there for nothing unless the pumps and inside are packed.
It takes 3 minutes to pump $10 worth of gas. You will just be clogging up the pumps.
I mean if its packed then wait. If its packed and you aint filling and you run in your being disrespectful bec usally in there 5min+ depending on the line…..but if its not a busy wawa run in on any amount
I wont. Why hold people up ? Get your food/drink, then go get your gas, you arent the ONLY one in the world.
I do it all the time! In fact, I did it today at the Wawa on the corner of Rt.37 and Hooper. It’s not like it was packed or anything. I don’t see the big deal.
It’s selfish
I mean it’s in New Jersey compared to doing it in any other state because of the law that you can’t pump your own gas so you have gas attendants and so many other people that stay in their cars while they get their gas versus other states like Florida for instance where you have to pump your own gas so if you choose to leave the gas running while you run into the store you’re more at risk of having your car get takenother than holding up a very long line I don’t see any issues with leaving your car why you going to go get something to drink or use the restroom or something like that
Jessica Lynn how would your car get taken, unless you’re dumb enough to leave the keys in it?
Marni Peterson Kociban you’d be surprised how many people do it.
That’s the reason I don’t by gas at Wawa.
Well, the Wawa has spoken. ?
IF there’s no line and there’s other pumps open, I don’t see a problem with it
If your filling up what’s the problem? Don’t take ten years… lol that’s all..
If ur quick and get back before ur gas is full its effective multi tasking. Otherwise rude and self centered
I do it all the time. Kill two birds with one stone. I dont see an issue unless you’re taking your sweet time and your car is finished before you get back.
Sometimes I pay at the pump other times I pay inside. It’s not my fault that there are many people at WaWa when I go inside…or is it ????????????
If you can get in and out quick sure, but if you’re ordering sandwiches and will be in there for more than 5 minutes probably not.
I dont. its rude. Sojo wanted to argue with me about it lol ??
Is it allowed…. yes. Is it a decent, courteous thing to do…. absolutely not.
If it’s not busy do it if I’m just grabbing one thing most the time I beat my car I’ll still be filling or they are just disconnecting
Never even questioned it, that’s what it’s there for, so you can get gas while picking up a few things. Anyone who doesn’t like it, tough shit, they just have anger issues.
No, they don’t have anger issues. They have the issue that they’re at the pump to get gas, pay for it & go on their way. Lines backed up at the pumps for the inconsiderate ones who go in for their breakfast & come strolling out while everyone waits. Totally rude.
I used to think this but it’s hell backing up and watching for cars and people and if you look up wawa s policy it’s against it so if I back into you for being a lazy fuck tuff shit you must have anger issues lol
Jan Werner Piscitelli it is anger issue, they built the place specifically so you can do that and you are saying they shouldn’t so you don’t have to be inconvenienced? If you don’t like it then go to a regular gas station.
Josh Jones I don’t know what you are talking about
Simple the rule is you should wait at your car the signs are comming soon because of this issue I can see if it’s off hours but in the morning when ppl are walking rigjt behind my car wile a bunch of others cars are comming in its bullshit and your a asshole for doing it
Josh Jones it’s why they built the place, so you can go in the store while you are getting gas, the article you are commenting on is wawa saying it’s ok, you are wrong, if you don’t like it then go to a gas station that doesn’t have a store and you won’t be enraged anymore. But don’t call people assholes for doing exactly what the place is designed for.
As long as you are back before your vehicle is filled.
That is exactly why I never get my gas at WaWa. It is just rude to the other customers having to wait for you to come back to your car.
I’ll just be rude and selfish I guess, should of got there before me
I only do it if it isn’t busy. Like late at night when I gas up
Rob Vieten exactly. When I go there’s like 2 people at the pumps. I can certainly get a coffee before my truck fills.
Drive electric; refuel at home for a fraction of the cost.
Mary Demarest-Paraan fuels are burned to create that electric
Hank McVay Thanks for mansplaining that Hank. I would have never guessed. Good thing I power my home and my cars with 100% solar.
Does that high horse you’re on require solar power?
Thanks for adding relevant input to this conversation.
Its not cool. The attendants don’t like it but they can’t stop it. I think if you leave your car…you should be charged extra!!!
Come pay my gas then I will stay at my truck.
Daniel Gabriele yes! Because if you use debit/credit prepaid they will put a hold on your card and if you pay inside it doesn’t apply…
Plain and simple. The people who leave their vehicle and go inside are flat out rude ignorant people!
NO
Self serve gas would solve the problem
Kevin Schmalz Sr. Yes!!!
No it doesn’t. I live in a self-serve state. And these fuckers camp out @ the pumps. It’s insane
We want self serve!
Pay for your gas inside store with other items purchased
Arlene Scollan do they even do that in NJ where they pump for us? Let us pay inside?
Marni Peterson Kociban yes just tell them pump # and they tell the attendant you paid
Arlene Scollan another scumbag move
I think it depends. I run in, grab cigs, maybe a drink, and I’m out sometimes b4 the pump even stops lol
Then theres this jerkoff basically abandoned his car at the pump for the last half hr theres only 4 pumps open and 2 attendants. (Real story quickchek brick during the power outage last month)
I agree and they do it at the wawa by me. It’s not right and rude. It hold people up. You aren’t the only one alive that needs gas so be considerate.
People will find anything to complain about gas stations on every corner but you wanna call me rude and selfish for being smart and getting two things done at once
NO!!!!!
No it is rude people have places to go and waiting for people to get there coffee is a pain in the ass
If you’re quick
Brunson Powner and it’s not packed. That’s the only time I do it. My truck takes 7 or 8 min to fill, at least.
Personally speaking, I think it’s rude. If I need something inside I’ll get my gas and then I’ll park. Why hold up a gas pump? I just think it’s inconsiderate.
Linda Bruno Kelly thank you and I do the same. I get gas then go inside or the opposite. People need to get to their destinations too so why be and inconsiderate to others.
No
If you go into wawa while you gas is being pumped your an inconsiderate prick it should not be allowed and there should also be directional lanes because people are fucking morons and can’t drive
Dumb ass website. Who gives a fuck
Only in very early morning when it’s quiet and there isn’t a coffee rush.
I do sometimes if not busy. However if you park at the pump and go inside when it’s packed, that’s just inconsiderate in my own opinion.
I do
Johnny Beale OH YOU’RE INNER IF THEN THAT HOKDS EVERYONE ELSE UP WAITING TO GET GAS. RUDE JERK
Beth Lane take it deep!
Selfish
The sign at the pumps instructs “do not leave your vehicle” among other things…
No! It’s inconsiderate which is very popular in NJ. I’m not sure but I believe it also maybe against the law.
Leaving your car at the gas pump while you shop is being inconsiderate to others wanting to get gas. But that’s only if you are raised that way…
Glenn Ehrhardt I agree Glenn, at least for this crowded area. I’ve been in some real rural areas where people pump there own gas, leave their car at the pump and run in the store and nobody blinks an eye.
Pete McKelvey who cares?
Robert Wagner hahahahaha
I never run in while I’m getting the car filled up. The Wawa I go to off of 539 and 528 intersection is constantly busy. Sometimes I have to wait for a pump to become available because they always have the cones up in some isles which I don’t know why they do that on a busy time of day. But me personally I would never leave my car while I was getting gas. I would go get gas first and then pull up to tue store and go in.
If tour paying inside and nees to get other things yes why not knock out 2 birds with 1 srone
Robb Smith you can’t pay inside in New Jersey you have to pay the attendant
Rick Sharp your wrong the Wawa up on route 9 in Woodbridge I paid quite often inside when I was in the area
Bill Dargan selfish
It’s not safe to leave your car unattended while the car is being gassed. What happens if there’s a fire or a dangerous event by the gas pump while you are inside? Of course Wawa is going to say it’s ok, they want our business.
Lionel Ullger I’m trying to understand your logic. It’s better if I’m IN the car if a fire or dangerous event occurs while my car is being filled?
Your car is never “unattended” if you’re in NJ you have gas attendants. Other states it is different.
Attendants do not have the authority to move any car in the event of a fire. Plus, hopefully, you keep the keys with you at all times. I know we are in NJ, I live here, lol
Leslie Borden Brennan isn’t that what I am trying to say in my comment?
I’ll do it if it’s not peak business hours. But I typically fuel up at a competing brand that offers a customer loyalty program.
No it’s a dick move
If there are 12+ pumps open and 2 or 3 cars, NOT busy time, I will run in for a coffee because it takes my truck’s large tank quite awhile to fill. I’m generally back by the time they’re done. I would never consider doing it when it’s busy, that’s just inconsiderate.
Marni Peterson Kociban same. I have a big truck, too. It def takes long enough for me to get a coffee if it’s not busy.
Lori McClane exactly. It makes no sense for me to sit twiddling my thumbs for over 5 minutes and then go inside.
No
Terrible to make others wait
Yes
Michael Chelednik selfish
This is why I don’t get gas at the Wawa on Lacey rd.
Only if you want your car stolen and insurance not to pay, lol.
Bruce Beyer insurance still pays even if you leave the keys inside, though you don’t need to do that to get gas anyway.
Marni Peterson Kociban I don’t think they pay if it’s that stupid, I hope they wouldn’t, it’s too stupid. Some people will leave their keys but it can be hot wired pretty quick if you forget lock it.
Where do you guys live? Hotwired at a gas pump with gas attendants?
Iz Rob they don’t have 1 attendant for each car, if they are short handed they are on the other side.
Not if there’s a lot of cars in line at the gas pumps.
If it is not busy it’s not a problem or if you know you’ll be in and out faster than it takes to gas your car. If it’s really busy or you’re going to take a while its inconsiderate.
I do it all the time what’s the issue
Stephanie Pinkham-Galante selfish
Bob Shields yeah that makes me selfish running into the store and coming out before my gas is finished. What’s the difference if I sat in my car.
Depending on how much you’re getting. Less than $15 no. More than $15 ok. Just don’t take forever inside
Scott A Barnes I guess $3.00 is out of the question?
Selfish
One of the reasons convenience stores have gas stations outside is so you’ll stop and then shop inside. The usual shop time is about the same as the fill time (less then 10 mins) unless you take your sweet time or they’re really backed up, it’s perfectly acceptable to go inside an grab a sub.
Hoagie
Timothy Lucas 10 mins at a gas pump?….hell no
Selfish
I ONLY do it when my spouse is with me. It’s pump etiquette for me I wouldn’t want to make someone else wait but that’s my opinion.
Stay w your car
Booo
Never
Only if you fill up. That’s the trade off…
Vince Ciulla selfish
Bob Shields ur opinion….
Vince Ciulla lol!!! Yeah making somone wait on you because you’re too lazy to be an adult. Loser
Bob Shields ?
my hubby thinks it’s OK , i thing it’s rude
And that’s why I don’t go to wawa
Y do I need to wait for a pump while u get coffee. Gas up then park and go in. I live less than a mile from a Wawa and this soooo pisses me off
No, never
No way, holds up the gas spots for others: rude and annoying!
Plain rude. Nobody is more important than the next. Get your gas and pull around to a spot and go in. Be a human.
When I stopped for gas the other day the attendant asked if I wanted to run in and he would watch the car, I thanked him.
.but I am woth you…move and park people are waiting!
Danielle Lambert you selfish, rude little woman. Lol
Bob Shields im such a bitch like that!
We have the same exact problem at fuel pumps at truck stops , only the lazy / entitled drivers feel that it’s okay to block a pump because they are too lazy / entitled to move to another spot , there’s never a solution to this problem , stupidity is always lurking …..
I really don’t think it’s Considerate to other people waiting to get gas… ?
No …just no .. the world doesn’t revolve around you ..
We have this problem in Texas. People get gas hang up the hose and walk into the store to buy drinks and snacks. That’s why Buckees has 156 pumps and you can’t get to one. SMH.
I only run in if I know I’ll be done by the time my cars done ??♀️. If not, I wait.
No
I don’t buy gas at WaWa, or anything else for that matter.
Harold Draken Well then this post would not apply to you.
If its not busy i do
I leave my truck at the pump and pay inside…
That’s not being considerable ,because wawa is not for you only ….
No
No
I am happy to announce my website is now up and running. Can you please post it on Ocean County scanner news. Highrise sports chair. Com
The ultimate way to watch any sporting event.
No.
Robert F. Snyder please
I’m a local guy from Beachwood and a Purple Heart Veteran just trying to make it
Anyone who has a problem with this is literally a vagina
No. you are holding up the line other people want to get gas too pull over after you get and go in
Why is it not OK for us to pump our own gas?
Pattie Guglielmi-Agosto
Ancient NJ law from the 1940s
Listen, if im filling up my vehicle and i run in to pick up a pack normally my car is still getting fuel when i come back out. If u can get what u need in a short amount of time then go for it. But if ur going inside a wawa to order a sub or some shit, wait for ur car to be done getting fuel and park that shit u uncultured crotch goblins
Joe McKelvey ….I agree. I timed someone at the pump and it was 17 minutes! They strolled out with sandwiches and several bags
If I’m running in for a coffee I have done it. It’s usually still pumping when I return.
If I’m getting food I don’t do it.
I do it and idgaf.
Sorry. I’m going to get gas and then run in, while my car is getting filled.
???♀️?♀️
I no longer do any business at any wa-wa.
Wayne Brass may I ask why ?
No thats rude
I always ask if it’s ok first before I go inside. And I ask if they want anything while I’m inside
Coffee yes a drink yes anything you have to use the computer to order absolutely no.
I asked about this several years ago. Wawa allows this to make money. It can be a pain when your can’t get around the park vehicle. You Just have to be patient and hope the person is not ordering a sandwich.
You just have to make an assessment of it looks to busy don’t do it. I’ve been doing it for years and I think only once or twice did I wait cause it was too busy
On the rare occasion I do this, I ALWAYS ask the attendant if it’s ok to run inside, and I’ll ask them if they want anything, coffee water etc! If they’re busy, I assume they’ll let me know it’s not cool to go in and always a nice gesture to grab your attendant something hot/ cold or drink!
I love how people are justifying this inconsiderate action by asking the attendant if they need anything. That means your wasting even more time in store(with you shouldn’t be in the first place)while someone’s is doing circles a already over crowded pumps. Rude !
Get you gas. Then drive to the store and shop. Simple. Be considerate
No those pumps are always so busy it’s rude to leave your car blocking the pumps while someone else waits for your spot. But Wawa doesn’t care. I read an article where they don’t make a lot of money on the gas. They want you to go inside & buy all of their overpriced products because that is where they make their money. So they r fine w/ you leaving your car at the pumps if it means you’re spending your money inside.
I’ve done it but only at 4 a.m. when I get gas. Otherwise I will stay with truck till it’s done.
I just go inside what r u asking for
No… it’s inconsiderate.
If its one attendant running 6 pumps at 9pm then please have the courtesy of moving your vehicle before spending 20 minutes inside the store.
Always, grab coffee while gas gets pumped. The attendants seem to expect it and never say anything, and leave receipt on my windshield. If you’re gonna linger in there and walk around, order a bunch of shorties etc, then no. Go park.
All I’m reading are people who seem very angry. Relax it will be okay.
Steven Michael Fowler were do you buy your ganja ?
Petr Dwlt Good one Sir
Maybe if it’s a very quick purchase, but people abuse it, so I say it shouldn’t be allowed. Very frustrating when there are lines for gas and people are taking their time in the store. Just happened to me.
Of course they say yes. Otherwise they might not shop there. But it’s not right for the people that have to wait. I’ll leave and won’t go back.
I will do this if I just need a coffee refil but always make it back before tanks full. I would never stay in store if there were a line or if I needed to buy stuff
who gives a shit, isn’t there other things to be worried about
No! As an outside sales rep, I drive a lot. It sucks when you’re pinned in between a car that’s finished getting gas and the owner is inside getting coffee…while I’m finished getting my tank filled…and another car behind me waiting to get gas after I’m finished. Happens 3-4 times a week. Get gas, park, and then get your sh*t!!! Why is YOUR time more valuable than mine that we all should wait for you?!?!?!
