Early this morning patrol officers were dispatched to the area of The United Methodist Church for a report of a possible grenade being placed in the donation box. The caller reported finding a grenade in the area of the church and subsequently placing it in the donation box because he thought it was a toy. He then contacted the police department to let us know. The safety of our residents and visitors is our number one priority so in response we began an evacuation of the area and started an investigation.

With the assistance of the Ocean Township Police Department Criminal Investigations Divosion, Ocean County Sheriff’s Department and the New Jersey State Police Bomb Squad Unit we were able to determine the “grenade” in question was an actual toy and the area was determined to be safe.

A special thank you to the assisting agencies.

Enjoy your weekend!
