LAKEWOOD – Lakewood Fire District No. 1 just purchased its first ladder truck in nearly 10 years.

The Board of Fire Commissioners of Lakewood Fire District No.1 along with Fire Chief Mike D’Elia Jr., recently announced the arrival its new Ladder Truck, Ladder 5. Ladder 5 brings the fleet up to a total of three aerial apparatus.

“This new Ladder Truck is the most recent example of the Board of Fire Commissioners commitment to investing in the infrastructure and equipment needs of the Lakewood Fire District,” according to the fire district.

Ladder 5 is a 2019 Pierce Ascendant Tandem Axle 107’ Aerial, which was designed and constructed over the course of 12 months by a dedicated team of fire professionals. The new truck was designed to accommodate the growth of the township while respecting the constraints of the taxpayer.

According to the fire district, Ladder 5 offers an increased compliment of Ground Ladders and at 107’ is now the tallest Aerial Apparatus in the District. In addition, the short wheel base design offers greater mobility and accessibility to hard to reach areas around town.

The Board of Fire Commissioners plans to invite members of the community to view the new apparatus soon. A date is to be announced.
