STAFFORD – A two vehicle accident sends several people to a local hospital, ties up traffic and is now under probe by the authorities.

Stafford Township Police said the incident happened on Friday afternoon shortly before 1 p.m.

73-year-old Charles Cooker, Jr. of Mays Lansing was driving his Mercedes-Benz in heavy traffic in the right lane of East Bay Avenue near Marsha Drive when he attempted to make a U-Turn in front of a container truck.

That truck, driven by 27-year-old Daniel Disbro of Tuckerton, was heading east in the left lane when Cooker’s car collided with his vehicle.

Police said Cooker’s vehicle rotated off the roadway into a gravel lot with heavy damage.

Cooker and two passengers sustained injuries and were taken to Southern Ocean Medical Center via Quality Medical Transport for treatment. The injuries are said to be minor and everyone is expected to be released.

Cooker was issued a summons for careless driving.
