As we approach our SIXTH anniversary and 30,000 fans, we thought it would be a grand time to explain the way this page is run to some of the newcomers around here. Ocean County Scanner News is an interactive website (www.ocsn.news) and Facebook Page with a little bit of Instagram mixed in. Our website is dedicated to delivering our fans the most accurate and timely breaking news for Ocean County.

The core of our business and website name is “SCANNER”, meaning we report news and information that we hear coming across our scanners. We listen to everything that we possibly can on our scanners, but many departments in the county encrypt their signals, or block us out to put it bluntly. We listen to police, fire, EMS, businesses, and anything else that goes out over the air. All that information is processed, and one of our volunteers will make a story out of the facts provided.

Very often you see people posting useless crap like, “Why is this news?” or “Slow News Day?” The answer is that we have the liberty to post whatever we want to entertain or provide information to the fans and public. Some stuff is routine and boring like dogs barking, or someone looking at someone funny in Lacey. Other stories are huge and we really break a big lead to keep everyone informed. We have fun doing it, and we like to provide a service to the community.

Also, we do NOT fabricate or speculate stories- we simply post what the dispatchers and units say over the air. That being said, stories often change between what information the RP (Reporting Party) gives dispatch versus what is actually happening when the units arrive. We will make every attempt to follow up and post dispositions to our stories, but due to the nature of how scanners operate- this isn’t always possible.

Sit back, relax, and if a particular story doesn’t interest you- please keep scrolling.

*ALSO if you need to contact the page, please do NOT send a message to individual staff members. This isn’t the most efficient method to get a response, and it is kind of creepy. The quickest way to get a response is to send a message to the page. This way the entire staff will get your message, and someone can reply quickly. If you need to message Dave the owner, you can email him at [email protected]. If you need to reach Robert in the IT department, please email him at [email protected]. If you need an administrator for advertising or anything else, please contact Lindsey at [email protected].
