Only minor injuries were reported after a Whiting man drove his vehicle into a Brentwood Drive residence over the weekend.
On June 23 at approximately 10:24 a.m., Manchester Police officers responded to Brentwood Drive in Whiting for a report of a vehicle that had driven into a house. Once on the scene, officers observed a 2019 Chrysler Pacifica collided with the front of a Brentwood Drive residence.
According to Manchester Police, the driver, 55-year old James Toth of Whiting was reversing out of his driveway when his vehicle began accelerating uncontrollably. Toth accelerated across the street and over the adjacent lawn into the front right part of the Brentwood Drive residence.
Toth reported that when he went to take the vehicle out of reverse and put it into drive, the vehicle began accelerating uncontrollably in reverse.
The Chrysler collided with a bedroom in the adjacent residence, which was occupied by residents 72-year old William Doty and his 70-yearold wife Linda at the time of the crash.
Both residents were on the opposite side of the room from where the vehicle entered and thankfully only suffered minor injuries. Both William and Linda Doty were treated by first aid at the scene and transported to Ocean Medical Center in Brick for further treatment. Their injuries do not appear to be life threatening
Manchester Police
Toth was uninjured in the crash.
An investigation is ongoing; however police believe driver error to be a contributing factor in the incident.

Damn Pacifica’s
Wondering how many people are conflicted by their normal impulse to write comments about “retesting” based on the residency in a seniors village and the relative youth of the driver.
Joann Sarullo Brendler Saw this weather different page. Someone did without as usual reading the article

Oh shit!!!
Imagine that!!
dumbass is lucky no one got killed, stupid driver
It amazes me how many elderly cars accelerators stick. It must be a conspiracy by the car companies against the seniors. How else would you explain it?! ?
Beverly Reilly Ombres since even is one at 55 an elder?
Beverly Reilly Ombres I’m older then him and the only thing I drive through is Wendy’s
55 is a young senior at best, my bet is on the minivan being more at fault this time.
Heidi Marie guess she didn’t read the article
Beverly Reilly Ombres 55 IS NOT A SENIOR
Beverly Reilly Ombres 55 is not elderly or a senior.
The driver wasn’t old..
Beverly Reilly Ombres 55 is not elderly
Elderly ? Lol no
Hey everyone, you are ALL correct. I did not see the driver’s age. 55 is NOT elderly. I apologize to anyone I might have insulted. I guess I’m so use to hearing the gas pedal stuck, I assumed it was another senior. BTW, I am a senior but my accelerator never sticks ?

The Chrysler pasifica has a known issue of unwanted acceleration in reverse and the shifter knob reading park but actually being in reverse. A lady on 101.5 called not too long ago saying she was in park but it was floored and in reverse she almost couldn’t control it. I’d be more inclined to blame the car on this one
Jim Oelfke I know the person who was driving the van. This is exactly what Jim said happened…..put car in reverse and couldn’t control it.

Not the first time this happened, my fiance repaired a house last year in holiday city, because the owner backed into his house.
House Error
” Accelerating uncontrollably.” That is what happens when you use the gas peddle like a brake peddle, Re test please.
These cars have electronic acceleration its servo driven you hit the gas it sends a signal to the servo on the throttle body to give it gas i have a Chrysler 200s 2016 and its my worse fear if that servo gos haywire im screwed lol it may have happened in this case you never know..
