Toms River: The Pine Rest Motel on NJ 37 before the bridges has been an eyesore for years. The motel has been closed for a few years, but the property has been in a steady decline ever since. Initially, the doors and windows were boarded up awaiting action. OCSN filmed a live event there twice to demonstrate the conditions. About 6 months ago, the boards were pried off and it became home to bums and vagrants. Just recently, everything was boarded up again and demolition equipment arrived on the property.

OCSN went out today to survey the progress, and it is moving rapidly. The photos included here were taken today, and the whole place is finally getting leveled.

There were plans for a new modern hotel to occupy the land, but we haven’t head anything in years about that. Hopefully this is the beginning to someone constructing an actually nice name-brand hotel to serve locals and tourists. Imagine the view from the 5th or 6th floor of a nice hotel?
