BARNEGAT – A neighbor with a garden hose helped keep a fire from further damaging a home in the Mirage development.

On Monday at 7:30 p.m., Barnegat Station 11 and Stafford Station 47 arrived at the home to see light smoke coming from the rear of the home.

The crew discovered a neighbor was using a garden hose to keep the fire at bay. Crews were able to extinguish the fire.

Damage was kept at a minimum and the homeowner was able to return home, officials said.

Chief 1100, Assistant Chief 1110, Ladders 1115 and 4725, Engines 1141, 4741, and 4731, Fire police 1104 responded. Barnegat First Aid Squad, Inc. Captain 110 and Rig 117, Stafford Township Volunteer Fire Company No. 1, Barnegat Police, and Ocean County Fire Marshals assisted.
