Kohr’s Frozen Custard, The Original turns 100!

Seaside Heights icon Kohr’s Frozen Custard, the original, which proudly has displayed it’s “Established 1919” sign for years, has reached its 100th year in business.
Greg Kohr, current owner of the longtime family business says his grandfather, Elton Kohr, started the business in 1919 at Coney Island in New York. Don’t call it ice cream, because Kohr’s famous recipe has egg yolks in it to make it melt at slower rate, and it is known as Frozen Custard.
The extended family of Greg Kohr has other establishments throughout the country, but Greg has all his stores on the boardwalk in Seaside Heights and Seaside Park as well as locations in the business districts of Ortley Beach and Lavallette.
A live country music show accompanied the events at Kohr’s. According to Diana “Dee” Pellegrino, owner of DPM Shore Solutions, who has helped bring this and many other entertainment events to Seaside Heights, Country music stars Matt Kennon and Bryan White performed from 5 to 9 p.m. on the night of the celebration, Friday May 17th. Kaptain Jack, of JerseyShoreCountry.com hosted the event. JerseyShoreCountry.com not only is the official country music internet station of Seaside Heights, but has its studios located on the second-floor of the Lifeguard Headquarters, Webster Avenue and The Boardwalk.

Greg Kohr, modern day owner of Kohr’s Frozen Custard, The Original is celebrating 100 years of his family business, which is iconic on the Boardwalk in Seaside Heights.
