TOMS RIVER – Two new businesses were announced to be part of the Ocean County Mall redevelopment: LA Fitness and Homesense.
These spots will take up residence in the retail hub portion of the mall, being constructed where Sears used to be. They will be across from the BJ’s Brewhouse and Restaurant that is currently under construction. The restaurant is expected to be open for the summer.
The LA Fitness is expected to open in the beginning of 2020. It will have 34,000 square feet, including a swimming pool and other amenities.
Homesense is scheduled for the second half of 2020, according to the mall’s press release. The retail spot sells such things as furniture, lighting, rugs, art, and décor.
“We are committed to reinvesting in the property including the look and feel of the center and LA Fitness and Homesense will be great additions,” said Tara Melodick, Mall Manager at Ocean County Mall. The mall will remain opened throughout the redevelopment and the entire project is scheduled to be completed by mid 2020.
“Another” gym now in the mall LMFAO!!! When there’s already one right next door AMC across street
Patrick Brennan they’re relocating. That one will close
Patrick Brennan maybe AMC could think of modernizing Seacourt. It’s sad the Seacourt movie theater. We go to Brick just because it’s a better experience.
Melissa Hellwarth Willie Mann-Ruffalo homesense!
Kaitlyn Strohmeier Yay??????
Kaitlyn Strohmeier can’t wait !!!!! ???
Why another LA Fitness there’s one across the street???? We need something exciting! Like a Wegmans!
Toni Esposito the site is way too small for Wegmans. Wegmans is overpriced and not that great. Blame anyone moving out of North Dover for killing the chances of a Wegmans. Wegmans wants high income areas
Toni Esposito well… they are closing the other one
Ashley Gee the whole town is going to shit anyway! Shame.
I doubt a Wegmans will ever open in TR, they’re all probably afraid of Shoprite. They already put Foodtown and Pathmark out of business.
I wish something would move into the old Foodtown on Fisher blvd. I am sick of looking at the empty building.
wegmans and Whole Foods have said numerous times that we are not the clientele they are marketing for. I wish everyone would get over it. It’s borderline annoying with everyone wanting wegmans and Whole Foods nowadays
Toni Esposito so true . Plus with the prices they want and money down forget it
Desiree Domer that’s your opinion! You’re entitled.
Alex Adamek Wegmans is amazing and competitively priced. They’re generally 10-20 cents cheaper than Stop & Shop or Foodtown on staple items. Their store brand is excellent, and they carry great produce. They’re worth the drive to stock up on some quality items.
The existing La fitness will be closing when the one at mall opens
Why bother the state will be filled with illegals on welfare soon enough and they don’t spend money just send it back to their home. With the taxes out of control most smart people are leaving the state.
It’s very safe to assume that the LA Fitness is relocating from its current location to what is a higher traffic location. I seriously doubt they’re going to operate a gym at the Seacourt Plaza and at the Ocean County Mall.
Yes, a relocation.
A mall is a place for stores and restaurants, not a gym. LA Fitness has been in that location since The Wiz went out of business, it’s been doing just fine there.
Scott Koenigsmark: From my experience, a fitness center at a mall is not unheard of at all. The mall close to where my family lives in Long Island has a 24 hour gym that’s been there for at least 10 years. They also have a Dave & Buster’s, a restaurant & entertainment center that is showing up in a lot of malls these days. Malls across the country are struggling with all the online competition they have, so they have to think outside the box to continue to stay in business.
its moving from across the street to the mall nothing wrong with that now The post office downtown is going where LA fitness is so everybody knows
Think it’s a great idea.. doubt if there will still be a pool
Michael De Fortuna I’ve heard of them being in other malls, I guess since I’m not a gym rat so my view on it doesn’t make sense. Dave and Busters is definitely outside the box, and I’m all about that. Even an iPlay America would do well, sucks going over the bridge just to play games and go on rides.
Scott Koenigsmark they’re rent went up astronomically. So they made deal by the mall.
Michele Scivoletti Andrews sucks they got forced out, but there are plenty of other places a gym could have went to instead. Foodtown is still empty, Baby’s R Us, they could have gotten Toys R Us before Burlington Coat Factory got it (another bad decision, there’s one right down the street) The mall’s rent is high too, that’s why these non chain stores never last. A gym is going to make everything better lol
True. There are . Just hoping they have adequate parking. But looking forward to an updated cleaner gum in general. The one now is gross.
Our mall is garbage. Whoever is in charge of approving these businesses in TR should be fired. If Brick wasn’t so congested with traffic I’d go there for all of my shopping.
Scott Koenigsmark Amen!!
Scott Koenigsmark well next year we will have a new mayor. That should be the platform they run on. Modernization! You can tell our town has been run by someone who is not up with the times.
Dennis Cafiero truer words have never been spoken! I couldn’t agree more ?
What a disappointment
Devon Schmiedeberg
Wow what a disappointment!
homesenes?!! garbage.. we have a homegoods/ tjmaxx/ marshalls… its all the same garbage. all overpriced Chinese trash!
The gym its moving from across the street to the mall nothing wrong with that now The post office downtown is going where LA fitness is so everybody knows
Joseph Gerard Bonafede oh thank god! I won’t even approach the TR post office cause of its location! I go to island heights.
Toms River needs a Chick-fil-A.
I keep saying that all the time.
Mike Anderson the issue will be the owner of brick location won’t allow it.
Mike Anderson ?
There’s already an la fitness like 15 minutes down the street. Not even ? this is dumb
Who cares nobody goes to the mall anyway, sell the mall to the orthodox they’ll fill it with schools and daycares.
So stupid….who puts a gym and a mall together…DUMB!
Will Not Last Long…
What is Homesense.? Like a Home Goods.
Linda Iannarone
Yes, just larger
Linda Iannarone Just like the one in Seaview Mall ?
Dawn Gardner waste.. we have Home Goods, Pier One, Marshall’s and Tuesday Morning all within a stones throw. OCM stinks.
Homesense is nice. They’re more organized than Home Goods and carry more furniture items. Home Goods always looks like stuff is just dumped on clearance shelves.
Lol, why not add an italian restaurant too, frickin morons.
I want a Primark!!!!!
Courtney Durer Freehold Mall
Dawn Gardner yes lol I’m aware. Thank you. But I mean in this mall
I also agree we need a Primark here. 45 minutes to get to Primark. It would do really well in the Toms River area
Never heard of it. Thank God for internet shopping!
Im not inpressed. Who wants to go to the mall for a gym..!! We need a better variety of STORES..
Lillian Kennedy seriously though!
The gym will not be in the mall.
Larissa Monique Perez this is so stupid!! Took sears out bcuz no one shops! A freaking gym? I don’t want that there!! Stupid! Stupid! Again stupid!
Emily Covella they just made a a gym down the street! Omg!
How about a Dave and Buster’s. Ya know, something that’s not that close by!!
That makes too much sense.
Waste
Sharon Brock Pirkowski Penny Bubadias Ferone Alex Charleston
Amber Rose Pirkowski Who goes to the mall and then want to go to a gym stupid idea.
Sharon Brock Pirkowski give motivation to lose weight for some clothing that you want to fit in. Plus a lot of old people walk the mall ??♀️
Amber Rose Pirkowski primark would be nice ..
Penny Bubadias Ferone YES!
I would join la but they are stupidly expensive
Primark!!!!
Yeah I’m a LA fitness memer
So dumb
Good I’m an LA fitness member many years. Think it’s a good move. Evidently, it’s a relocation they are not going to open another one across the street
So two homes goods and two discount shopping bin stores in 1000ft of each other lol good one Toms River. So customers in Toms River afford normal priced shipping or something unique I assume
That’s so stupid wasting time
Becca Joy it IS la fitness moving!
Jen Lynn you called it!!
That’s what’s going there what a waste
Colleen Sharkey Lindsey-silver definitely a waste
Ocean County Mall is like ghost town!
Most malls are anymore.
Yay LA. Needs is outdated! Excited for a new one!
Wow what a waste. Should be trying to bring business to that mall not drive it away. Who thought those were good choices?! Smh
Horrible choice
