New Jersey Gov. Phil Murphy has changed course, saying Tuesday he wants to preserve $33 million in funding that firefighters use for burials, medical expenses and related expenses.
Murphy changed his mind after defending cuts to that fund, saying it had too much money. The controversial decision drew fierce opposition from even people in his own Democratic Party.
“We have listened to the concerns of our brothers and sisters in the firefighter community, whom I have the utmost respect and admiration for,” said Murphy. “As a result, I can say unequivocally that we are taking this budget option off the table.”

Instead of giving something back to the volunteers for the years of service that they give unselfishly, they should slap you with a fire tax, raise your taxes and put on paid departments. Let me guess….then you would be bitching that they raised your taxes. And while I’m at it, those so called public servants that you called us, you would be offering us the world if you or a loved one was in trouble and you requested our help. If you want some of these benefits, come on down and sign on the dotted line. Volunteer your time, help out your community, go to the countless hours of training and schooling, and do it for a minimum of 7 good years to get the little benefit that the state offers. Or, then again, sit on your couch and complain about the “public servants”

Marks comment is one of the problems out there, ppl are misinformed, the volly service is losing members and losing departments to paid services, if ppl realized the amount of money is saved with volunteers they’d understand. We give not for recognition or a pay check but knowing if something did happen to me at least my family would be taken care of.
