LAKEHURST – A Barnegat woman was arrested on drug charges after a motor vehicle stop in Lakehurst found heroin and a hypodermic needle in her possession, police said.

Melissa A. Deman, 30, was arrested and charged with Possession of Heroin, Possession of Drug Paraphernalia, Possession of a Hypodermic Needle and Being Under the Influence of CDS.

On April 15 at approximately 2 p.m., Sergeant Matthew Kline and Officer Jason Guide of the Lakehurst Police Department initiated a motor vehicle stop after they observed a Chevrolet Cobalt fail to make a complete stop at a stop sign on Rose and Oak Street.

During the motor vehicle stop, police believed Deman to be exhibiting signs of being under the influence of a controlled dangerous substance. Further investigation found 36 wax folds of heroin and a hypodermic needle.

Deman was processed at Lakehurst Police Headquarters and issued a summons for the charges. She has since been released pending a court appearance.
