TRENTON – A NJ State Trooper was arrested on child pornography charges after engaging in a sexually explicit email exchange with another woman about a prepubescent girl, announced Attorney General Gurbir Grewal.

Jeffrey Reitz, 47, of Williamstown (Gloucester County) was arrested on April 18 on a charge of third-degree possession of child pornography. Reitz, who is assigned to the Commercial Carrier Safety Inspection Unit, has been suspended by the New Jersey State Police.

Authorities allege that on December 31, 2014, Reitz engaged in a sexually explicit email exchange with the woman, who suggested that he sexually assault a prepubescent girl. Reitz allegedly asked for a photo of the young girl and the woman sent him a sexually explicit photo of her. Reitz also allegedly sent photos of his genitals to the woman, both before and after the woman sent the photo of the girl.

The email exchange was uncovered as a result of evidence seized in a separate investigation by the Camden County Prosecutor’s Office.

Reitz faces a sentence of three to five years in state prison and a fine of up to $15,000 on the third degree charge. He was held in custody pending a court appearance.
