     Scott A Barnes I feel bad for the kid and the kids parents but we need to teach our kids to wait till the cars are clear before crossing the road even a crosswalk . Too many drivers are on cell phones and not paying attention to the road . Laws won’t shield that child , but we can hopefully prevent future accidents like this .

     Michael Anthony Iccutnas and how do you know this was a distracted driving or a jaywalking thing? People DO lose control of vehicles suddenly. No one knows what happened so assuming is just damn silly

   This generation definitely has lost normal common sense!! Only cross at traffic lights when it is clear. Look BOTH ways before you cross!! Hell I look both ways just walking through shoprite/Walmart parking lots….lol prayers for the injured teen but damn kids, LOOK AROUND get your faces out of cellphone world and PAY ATTENTION!!!

     Kasey Magyar yes you are right absolutely. There are plenty of horrible drivers around here and I should’ve put that in there. I just see so many teenagers here in Beachwood walking across RT 9 and our other roads and they have their heads down with their phones and not paying attention….it sucks!

    If a pedestrian is waiting to cross the street at an uncontrolled intersection vehicles are required to yield. This law passed in 2010 and nobody seems to know, including law enforcement. No crosswalk is required. At a crosswalk a vehicle is required to stop.

    For those of you who were so quick to pass blame on the kid….IT WAS MY KID! and I pray that each and every one of you never recieve that terrifying call! My son was riding his bike down route 9 on the side of the road NOT ON HIS PHONE when he clearly made eye contact with the driver pulling out of a driveway. My son thought he was stopping and not gonna pull out on rt 9 in front of him. And as far as i’m aware pedestrians have the right of way….. but guess what he didn’t stop! Stop being to quick to blame people or judge if you don’t have the full details! And little does everyone know he is a great kid who was on his way home from dropping off job applications and trying to do the RIGHT THING! How else is a 16 year old supposed to find a job or get to and from work with no licenses! Thank god he is ok and I would like to personally thank berkeley police and EMS for your quick response. Like I said I hope no one ever gets that terrifying call one day!

    Correct me if I’m wrong but I read the kid was riding on the side of the road and the car Pulled out of a driveway. No one was crossing RT 9.
