LACEY – The student suspected of having measles in the Lacey Township School District does not have the virus, school officials announced yesterday.

Superintendent Dr. Vanessa Clark put out an updated letter to parents on April 10 informing parents that the Ocean County Health Department “informed us that the student at Forked River Elementary School suspected of having measles does NOT have the virus.”

The student was tested for the virus and these results came back negative, she added.

An initial letter went out to parents on April 8 warning against a possible case of measles in a student at the Forked River School.

Superintendent Clark noted in the letter: “While the virus that causes measles is spread through the air, our Forked River School custodial staff will increase cleaning protocols to ensure that surfaces such as desktops and door handles are thoroughly disinfected.”

Despite the negative test results, the district will continue to provide information regarding the measles on their website at laceyschools.org.

“An important point to keep in mind is that now is still a great time for all families, teachers and school administrators to review their vaccine records and get their vaccines up to date,” wrote Clark.

Parents with questions can contact Principal Fiedler or the School Nurse, Mrs. Mattoon at 609-871-2080, or Superintendent Clark at 609-971-2000, ext. 1002.
