Ocean County Prosecutor Bradley D. Billhimer announced that on March 19, 2019, Louis Freund, age 52, of Toms River, was indicted for Theft by Unlawful Taking in violation of N.J.S.A. 2C: 20-3a.
The Ocean County Prosecutor’s Office and Toms River Police Department iniated an investigation after receiving information that, Freund, the Treasurer of Boy Scout Pack #57 in Toms River, was using the Boy Scout account for personal expenditures. A subsequent Grand Jury subpoena served upon TD Bank revealed 16 ATM withdrawals totaling approximately $3,850.00 and numerous purchases from various retailers that were not for the benefit if Boy Scout Pack #57 totaling approximately $695.00.
“The parents and kids that volunteer their time for an organization such as the Boy Scouts deserve better than this” Prosecutor Billhimer said.
The public and media are reminded that all defendants are innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
What a loser
Seems like any organization with a vast amount of money, weather it be scouts, soccer, vets or church is open to stealing and embezzlement……..sad
Don’t get me wrong, this guy sucks, but the Boy Scouts no longer exist, how can you steal from a defunct organization?
They should check other packs. I’ve heard about stealing in other packs that were covered up.
Lori Branic that’s part of why I took Devon out of boy Scouts
As a kid in 60’s & early 70’s, I was a Cub Scout and Boy Scout, played Little League Baseball, was a 9-year member of Drum & Bugle Corps, and was part of youth groups at my churches in Jackson and Toms River. All adult volunteers were honest, as kids we looked up to them. Not sure what has happened over the last 50 years, but it seems like there are far too many criminals & scumbags associated with youth organizations.
Thomas Brophy I got kicked out for eating a brownie
Gerard I love that joke! I’ve used it many times since you told it to me years ago!
Bryan Kaiserman is Bill Wilson part of this too? ?
Nicholas Manos I doubt it mightly
