Brick Says Not in Our Backyard
By Gary Beeg Jr.

BREAKING: The Brick Township Council voted a unanimous “yes” in favor of banning the recreational sale of marijuana during the council meeting on March 12.
The meeting had a large turnout for both sides of this hotly contested issue.

Proponents for the ban spoke about how much medicinal and recreational marijuana has helped them from quitting heavy drugs like heroin to combating cancer. They cited alcohol as being far more destructive to society with the numerous liquor stores, town events that include booze and even private events like weddings.

Opponents cited how passing the legalization will only add fuel to the drug problem.
They said the image of the town will change dramatically and expressed their fears of the crime rate skyrocketing. Child safety in the area of the proposed dispensary on Adamston Road and a decrease in property value were also raised in their argument.

A consistent question asked from the opponents was how the recreational usage would be policed. Verbal exchanges ensued throughout the mostly civil public discussion from both sides of the issue. Two women were removed from the meeting for arguing.
NBC 4 New York and News 12 were also at the meeting.
