It’s been nearly 1 year since Earl “Everlasting” Sanders (54, of Neptune City), and his 52 year old passenger were driving southbound on Route 18 after leaving the Elks Club in Freehold.

They were driving down Route 18 when an unknown assailant or assailants pulled next to their vehicle (2009 Mercedes Benz, C350) and fired numerous shots, striking Sanders several times.

Sanders proceeded to loose control of his vehicle, struck a guardrail near the Route 537 exit and was pronounced dead at the scene after Colts Neck Police Department arrived.

The passenger, was transported to a local hospital and treated for non-life-threatening injuries.

The investigation is active and ongoing.
