Linda Giovinazzo Infanti I was just driving north and the parkway and going south is down to one lane from exit 81-89 bumper to bumper. I saw the car being lifted now and there’s like nothing left of it besides the floor of the car, so sad ?
I think it was just after exit 82, i was stuck in that traffic and had to get off towards seaside. But still that entire stretch on the parkway needs to be updated and fast. Theres a fatality there weekly it seems like.
Ocean County Scanner News I don’t have pics but I passed by it heading northbound in the left hand lane. Looked like there was a tractor trailer involved. Small car was crumpled like a tin can. Half the car was covered in a big yellow tarp. Tons of first responders. It’ll be a miracle if there’s no fatalities. ?
KelleyAnn Gonnella thank you for not showing the video I am a firefighter and there is nothing worse then seeing a video of a fatal accident with the victim in the video
I did not take pictures but I drove past it. Very, very bad. Debris all over 3 lanes and one car looks heavily damaged on the front end…possibly rear ended a dump truck
The only the that held me together was my nephew asking me if I need a bucket so I could throw up because I just kept saying omg omg omg I’m gonna throw up
it is a really crappy part of the parkway, people getting on @ 81 are forced into the lane that people are trying to get into so they can exit @ 80 and it just makes it easy for a nightmare like this to happen
Jeff Bacon there are a lot of exits like this. Part of the problem is that people do not know how to drive. The way it “should” work is the people exiting the parkway should slow down to prepare to exit and the people coming on need to speed up to merge. But often times the mergers creep on and those exiting are flying to the exit.
Sabrina Ramoth yes. And then the people who are not getting off but are in the lane the people getting on need to merge in, will speed up so no one can get over in front of them. Which causes the people getting on at 81 having to stay in the exit lane longer until its clear for them to get over.
Couldn’t bare to take one closer… small white/silver ..suv/large hatch…accident looked very similar to the parkway accident recently… passenger side has blanket over it assuming passenger has passed
Paul Hewitt I was trying to drive and focus on the road and the vehicle is completely mangled.. there’s always gotta be one person to start drama from the extent of the damage its extremely hard to judge it being silver or white. And whether it is a small SUV or large hatchback …nothing is that far off I didnt save a coupe or a lifted truck …grow up and pray for the family
A friend of mine was driving the truck that was involved with the car. Was dead stop in traffic and the car smashed right into the back of the truck. I also drove by and the front of the car was gone. All was left was the back of the car. Small vechile
Currently still there. Car is trapped. Avoid area in both directions if possible and if you don’t want to witness the accident don’t go anywhere near there.
Take your eyes off the rd for a couple seconds, look up and smash… how else do you hit a truck that is stopped?
Horrible… really feel for the firefighters & other emetgency personnel
My husband was a Herbertsville fireman and they were responsible for the Brick section of parkway. He saw such awful accidents – parkway exit 80-100 has a 55mph speed limit bc it’s called “extrication alley” many accidents on this stretch of the parkway. So tragic! I’m praying for all involved ????????????
The truck was not stopped. there was a ladder laying in the lane and the cop instead of slowing down going across all the lanes with his lights on to slow traffic down and get all lanes to stop the cop just slams on his breaks and gets out of his car in the middle of the parkway picks the ladder up the truck driver driving a rolloff truck that Carry dumpsters slams on his breaks and the car did the same but creams the back of the truck dam near decapitated the driver
Victoria Reed there was a ladder laying in the lane and the cop instead of slowing down going across all the lanes with his lights on to slow traffic down and get all lanes to stop the cop just slams on his breaks and gets out of his car in the middle of the parkway picks the ladder up the truck driver driving a rolloff truck that Carry dumpsters slams on his breaks and the car did the same but creams the back of the truck dam near decapitated the driver
Chris Schell i saw it too and thought the same exact thing. He literally stopped traffic dead in its lanes. I saw him rush out of suv and grab the ladder then it was a huge chain reaction behind him. Was not handled like the state police do to slow traffic at all.
State police are only able to slow traffic like that if they know of the road hazard ahead of time. From this post it sounds like the officer slammed on the brakes which probably means the officer just came across it like any other vehicle, therefore would not be able to perform that maneuver. I wasn’t there so I can only go by what the post says…
Philip Bruce I am with u on that who am I to say anything to me I just think it was wayyyyyy to risky of a move to attempt it’s a ladder not a guy laying on the ground I think I would of treated it as if I have no flashing lights on my car bc they dont allways work cops still get hit …. i would of A. Pulled on shoulder with my lights on so everyone would start to keep a eye out then when no traffic run out there and grab it or i would of called D.o.t for help or back up with some one further down the road telling people to merge before attempting i under stand the guy was not paying attention bc in nj if u read end someone it’s that guys fault I just think the life of this guy could of been around still if he new his options
Your opinion is understandable there. I just don’t agree with saying “guy died bc of the police officer” There was obviously other contributing factors from what it sounds like, first thing being the ladder on the roadway. Either way it’s a tragedy that could have been prevented by securing that ladder in the first place. It’s just a bad situation.
Chris Schell so let me get this right, the cops sees the ladder and stops in time, the garbage truck sees the cop it manages to stop a garbage truck in time. This guy sees none of this and plows into the back of the the garbage truck that was stopped because somebody did not properly secure their ladder on their roof and it’s the cops fault?
If the driver of the car took his eyes off the road or was following to close to the dump truck then it was not the police officers fault. Follow the rules of the road.
Barbara Heimall there was a ladder laying in the lane and the cop instead of slowing down going across all the lanes with his lights on to slow traffic down and get all lanes to stop the cop just slams on his breaks and gets out of his car in the middle of the parkway picks the ladder up the truck driver driving a rolloff truck that Carry dumpsters slams on his breaks and the car did the same but creams the back of the truck dam near decapitated the driver
I agree I was right behind the sheriff and had to slam on my breaks to not hit him luckily no one was on the right so I was able to go around I even thought that is going to cause and accident then I get the notification as I’m still on my way home
While agree the cop should not have slammed his break so hard. I wonder how close to the dump truck the car was? People tail gate on the park way all the time. If he or she was too close then of course they wouldnt be able to stop in time. If thats the case then it wasnt the cops fault at all.
Christina Ann exactly. How does that big ass truck stop that fast before that car does. I’m sorry for the loss but driving a vehicle you need to pay attention you’re driving a weapon. Only people who knows the full true story know it and its facts but the rest is he say she say. Prayers out to the victim and family ?
That is where the RT9 designation for the GSP ends southbound and all trucks must exit. Extremely busy. A 55mph zone that no one obeys. Northbound side is almost as bad. Maybe a flashing warning sign on the Lakehurst Rd bridge to let drivers know they are entering a death zone.
Harold you have no idea what you are talking about. All trucks are aloud on the parkway up until exit 105. After 105 they must exit as long as they are going north.
Deb Scharbo. This was literally 5 minutes behind me. It’s so scary. If I hadn’t left early for Trevor I would have been right there at that time. I feel so bad. That stretch of the parkway is so dangerous.
I almost hit the stopped police vehicle myself. Thankfully the lane to my right was clear so I could switch over quickly. It was very unexpected to have a vehicle at a dead stop in the middle lane. I knew it was gonna cause an accident. So sad 🙁
I feel bad for the person who passed. I live off of 80 and people do not know how to yield and let people get over. Also they speed like crazy. I do not believe it was the police officers fault. He might off not had enough time to turn his lights on. I blame the people who left the ladder in the road. Secure things better. Or how do you not hear a ladder fall off your car. Also if the driver of the car was speeding, took his/her eyes off the road, or was following to close, then it is not the police offers fault.

It’s true, there’s a lot of people driving like asses but the way the entrance and exit is set up there doesn’t help.
Jeff Bacon i day this ALL the time!!! i hate driving that stretch of the parkway for that reason.
Jeff Bacon no it doesn’t help at all
Jeff Bacon that’s the same scenario at exit 82 Seaside Heights Route 37 East
Dorothy Quinn yes I think that one is even worse.
Sara McClave I drive it everyday and pray I make it to work. People drive like a bunch of idiots. Everyone is in a hurry!!!
Sabrina Ramoth yes. And then the people who are not getting off but are in the lane the people getting on need to merge in, will speed up so no one can get over in front of them. Which causes the people getting on at 81 having to stay in the exit lane longer until its clear for them to get over.
It is so bad right there there’s accidents there all the time isn’t that just where those kids died recently
Jenniffer Ann Roeder III I believe it is. ?
Tracey Curry Brooks so sad the parkway is a dangerous road for sure. Prayers to all.that was involved
Yes it is ?

Chris Schell omg
Philip Bruce your right I take that back ya really bad no matter what way
So you expected the Sheriff’s officer to hit the ladder? Keeping proper car length’s and speed goes a long way in staying alive
Lauren Truszkowski wow how sad
Chris Schell so let me get this right, the cops sees the ladder and stops in time, the garbage truck sees the cop it manages to stop a garbage truck in time. Philip Bruce it was called into dispatch but a toms river officer is the one who stopped to pick.up ladder from what I read . Was not handled properly
The guy would be alive if the cop handled that differently
Chris Schell can you explain?
Barbara Heimall there was a ladder laying in the lane and the cop instead of slowing down going across all the lanes with his lights on to slow traffic down and get all lanes to stop the cop just slams on his breaks and gets out of his car in the middle of the parkway picks the ladder up the truck driver driving a rolloff truck that Carry dumpsters slams on his breaks and the car did the same but creams the back of the truck dam near decapitated the driver
Chris Schell what a tradgey you witnessed
Chris Schell I saw after..and by the looks ..definitely looked as if thats what happened to the driver..I can’t get that image out of my head

was it the Essex county sheriff officer?
Ocean but the sheriff was a lady she came with the white sheet bc the guy died it was a state trooper who stopped in a car
While agree the cop should not have slammed his break so hard. I wonder how close to the dump truck the car was? People tail gate on the park way all the time. If he or she was too close then of course they wouldnt be able to stop in time. If thats the case then it wasnt the cops fault at all.

I have the WRX.. it’s amazing how well the eyesight works.
Lisa Williams the adaptive cruise is amazing!
I saw the the hole thing happen it was all over a ladder
Chris Schell what happened
Tracey Curry Brooks cop slammed on his breaks to get a ladder off parkway and caused chain reaction
Chris Schell holy what?!! Ugh
Tracey Curry Brooks yup
Chris Schell thats makes sense kinda. I couldn’t figure out how it was ahead of accident and the orange ladder.
I believe it was a Sheriff suv. Not 100%

Noelle DeSanti
Still very crowded
That area is a crap show. In December 4 kids died there
I don’t think this had to do where it was on the parkway. I think it was more of the careless mistake that was made, from what I am reading.
Joanna Dimaio-Murphy
I’m heading that way now. Is it still backed up?
