The first Orthodox Jewish police officer in the history of the Lakewood New Jersey Police Department was hired this week, according to The Lakewood Scoop (Poop).
The Orthodox Jewish officer is one of 13 new officers who were hired, a diverse group who will serve the rapidly growing Lakewood community.
“I am pleased to announce today that we’re hiring 13 new police officers, men and women from our very diverse community in order to bring our numbers up to 150 sworn officers,” Police Chief Greg Meyer told TLS in an interview.

Bob Longo it’s just a 24 hour period – from sundown Friday to sundown Saturday. He can work all day Friday and Saturday nights. He can work any time Sunday. It’s not an entire weekend. I don’t see a problem.

You realize he will wear a uniform. Orthodox surgeons dress for the job they do… also, cops wear baseball caps or trooper hats and whatever the uniform is all the time, so this should not be a consideration.

As a resident of Lakewood I’m fine with this as I believe a police force should reflect the community it serves as much as possible. From what I’ve read in other communities across the USA that have Orthodox policemen, they don’t work on the Sabbath but they make up the time by working Sundays and holidays such as Christmas and New Years, which the goy cops actually appreciate since it helps them to not work on those days. I wish the young man well, I hope it works out for him, his colleagues, and the community.

All respect and politeness in this comment: why does the new police officer’s religious beliefs need to be announced? Do you do that with all of the police officers? Announce their faith? The reality is that this individual is a professionally trained police officer on the LPD and should not be singled out or discriminated against because of their faith. The LPD would not have hired this group of police officers if they were not professionals. It should be an embarrassment that this is the first of someone with the Jewish faith being hired as LPD, but at the same, religion has nothing to do with their qualifications at all, that’s the law. As long as the individuals meet the criteria for the professional position and hiring terms of employment when they are hired is all anyone needs to be concerned about – and obviously this group of new hires did.
