Defendant also works at the school as a paraprofessional

Burlington County Prosecutor Scott Coffina and Maple Shade Acting Police Chief Christopher Fletcher announced that an assistant football coach at Maple Shade High School was charged today with having sex with a female student who attends the school.

Mark Kinney, 31, of the 700 block of Millbridge Road in Clementon, was charged with two counts of Sexual Assault (Second Degree), Endangering the Welfare of a Child (Second Degree) and Official Misconduct (Second Degree).

Kinney was released following a first appearance in Superior Court this afternoon in Mount Holly. The case will now be prepared for presentation to a Burlington County Grand Jury for possible indictment.

The incidents for which Kinney are charged occurred during the present school year inside of the high school, the investigation revealed. Kinney is employed by a contractor who provides paraprofessional services to students at the school.

The age of the victim, and additional details about the incident, are being withheld in an effort to protect her identity.

The investigation is being conducted by the Prosecutor’s Office and the Maple Shade Police Department. The lead investigators are BCPO Detective Robert Hageman and Maple Shade Detective Jeff Engel.

Kinney is being prosecuted by Assistant Prosecutor Stephen Eife, supervisor of the Special Victims Section of the BCPO Major Crimes Unit.
