The Greenhouse Cafe is offering a free or discounted meal to those serving at U.S. Coast Guard Station Barnegat Light, who will tentatively not receive pay during the federal government shutdown, the restaurant announced. Meals $20 or cheaper will be free, and other meals will be discounted $20 because of federal law gift caps.
The restaurant is located at 605 Long Beach Blvd., Ship Bottom. They said they will also apply the discount to other federal employees affected by the shutdown.
Residents can also help the Barnegat Light Coast Guard by sending donations to 601 Bayview Ave., Barnegat Light, NJ 08006. Little Egg Harbor resident Mikey Tompkins recommended in the LBI, NJ Events/Happenings Facebook group that people send Visa gift cards. As a reminder, gifts must be $20 or cheaper to comply with federal gifting laws.
That explains why the parking was full <3
Just so everyone knows: If military pay is not paid on 1 February USAA is giving interest-free payroll loans up to $6,000. This is only for the Feb 1 check, but they may, keyword, may make a new deal if the shutdown goes longer than that. Not taking away from the diner’s move, but just giving info to people who are reading an article on the shutdown and military pay. Spouses, family members and maybe even the service member themselves may not be aware. If you bank with USAA you will get your Feb 1st check!
Not really. They’re actually being heavily criticized for their lack of assistance.

And the USCG is the only branch not being paid. The other branches are funded. They (USAA) are doing nothing for the vets banking with them who are still working and NOT being paid.
The USCG is in an odd position because they kind of are Military but they kind of aren’t, too. The Army, Navy and Air Force are Dept of Defense while the Coast Guard is Dept of Homeland Security.
Anyway USAA is also supplying interest free loans to USCG members, but the cap is smaller than Army, Navy and Air Force

I have been a loyal member of usaa for 12 years and every year they have offered to deposit checks if a shutdown occured i always felt safe and proud to be a member untill this year ! Their loans were not easy to be approved for and majority of our friends also loyal customers were denied !
Mike Spike they are military. But not under DOD. They are still military.
Great job Don Brown
Pete Donahue ??
In honor of my Dad, Coast Guard Vet Donald H. Brown, we are offering a free meal or deal to those serving at our U.S. Coast Guard Station Barnegat Light and their Families, as well as to other local Federal workers who may be struggling. We are limited to a $20 total discount due to Federal law gift caps, so that could apply to a complete total check or partial if it exceeds $20, Dine In or Take Out. The GHC CREW thanks you all for your services and sacrifices.
Thanks Don Brown, and the cooks and servers at The Greenhouse Cafe.
That’s awesome
