Paramedics carry insulin and epinephrine and some EMS agencies do have epi-pens. Medics are also first responders.

Several of you seem to believe that heroin addiction just became a problem since Narcan became available and that in itself speaks volumes. When someone is unresponsive and going to die emergency services will do anything they can to save their life NOT treat the underlying problem JUST get them breathing on their own and stable.

This includes but is not limited to drunk drivers, over eaters, suicide attempts, etc….all bad choices and they still are not just left to die. This really isn’t a difficult concept and the people who have a problem with Narcan are those who aren’t educated enough to realize that there are much bigger issues they could be concerned with but they jump on whatever hot topic makes them feel “better than” or informed enough to form an opinion without actually having to be informed completely on a given topic.

I would love to introduce you to an advocate for Narcan who buried his 20 year old son last year and see how you feel after speaking to someone in such pain. That’s bull shit. I had no idea about a physical addiction until I was on pain meds for two years and was taken off of them by that time it was to late. Once your in that situation your brain goes into survival mode and has you believing that if you don’t go get well your going to die. It’s like putting a guy in a raft at see and telling him not to drink the sea water cause it’s going to kill you but we all know your going to drink it at some point. So the first step is to get clean then it’s about figuring out why the hell you would want to live like that and fortunately they don’t stay clean long enough to figure it out. So slow down on the judgement unless you been there.

Unfortunately the whole BIG PHARMA argument is BS as far as I’m concerned because over the last 38 months i attended the funerals of 4 individuals die to heroin OD’s and NONE of them were ever prescribed pain meds of any sort. I had 4 back surgeries and took pain meds through it all. As the pain subsided i stopped taking them. They actually stop working anyway. So i was there..i chose not to take them anymore because i didn’t feel like it helped anyway. I wad in ICU they gave me meds intravenously. I eventually just didn’t feel the need to take them if they only made my head foggy. So i still think its a choice.

This could go on forever. Pain meds are given after major surgery. Heroin is not which makes it a choice to use that needle. Unlike heroin, pain meds are prescribed and once taken illegally then that also becomes a choice. I was addicted to pain meds after major surgery and when you’re in actual pain you don’t have much of a choice anymore so I get it. There There is also emotional pain which leads to heroin but there is always help if they really want it so no excuse!

See when you take something that makes you feel good the only reason you would continue taking it is beacuse your so unhappy with yourself that it’s the only way you can feel good and the brain thrives to feel good so you fall into a pattern of looking for a substance that will give you that good feeling without having to put effort into earning that good feeling. We know that in order to get a reward you have to work for it. With drugs you just take something and you get that instant reward. I don’t understand why there’s so much bashing. Why wouldn’t you want to help somebody that is going through such a hard time in their lives. You never know what’s going on with someone or what has happened in their life to put them on this road. Maybe they have no one to help them. I know ocean county does not have a rehabilitation center at all that is focused on drugs and alcohol. All they have is a psych ward. A psych word is not for someone that is addicted to something. how do you know didn’t grow up having parents that did something and the parents gave it to them or they got an injury and they wanted to get an addicted to what they were on. All of you that are bashing obviously have never been there there’s people that are losing their sons their daughters their mothers their fathers aunts or uncles etc. You all really seem so cold hearted. I really really wish none of you are in any of these parents situations where they don’t know if they’re going to get that phone call in the middle all night that their child is gone.
