TOMS RIVER – Toms River Township officials cut the ribbon on the Legion Square Village Apartments, a brand new redevelopment project located in Downtown Toms River, on Dec. 14.
Located at 245 Main St., the Legion Square Village Apartments hold 55 units, 51 two-bedrooms and 4 one-bedroom. The units come equipped with major appliances, such as a dishwasher, washer and dryer, granite countertops, carpeting, central air-conditioning, energy-efficient gas heat, and a high-end security system among many other amenities, according to owner Phillip Celler.
Township officials were happy to see the complex finally open its doors to the public, noting that it will be a great addition to the downtown area.
“Downtown is very important to us…and [this is] one thing we always wanted to preserve the character of the downtown area,” said Freeholder Joe Vicari.
I give it 30 days to the first od
Optimistic aren’t you? 5 days….. 🙂
Let me guess… are these all state aid housing…
Somebody please tell me how this preserves the character of downtown?
Sabrina – The “character” of the downtown is exactly what requires change. Right now it is a dead zone for business and has almost zero in the way of attractions or high-end restaurants or nightlife. Redevelopment is smartly focused on changing downtown TR, not preserving it. Why would we want to preserve something that is non-functioning? This is a great opportunity for Ocean County to prove that something other than roadside chain restaurants can thrive here – and it starts with high quality mixed use development like this.
These are a big unneeded monstrosity in the middle of town. They look awful and will do nothing to revitalize
Is it for everyone or just people of a certain Jewish faith ?
It’s all about money everyone. They are chopping up areas of Toms River just to fill the wallets. Look at what they’ve done in the past three years. Route 9 looks like a demolition zone because of the choices the powers that be made. It’s disgusting
Let’s see how many fire calls we get there ?
This should improve traffic tremendously ?
That’s going to make things nicer. ???
“Preserve the character” Downtown has nice shops, older buildings…. this is polar opposite.
55-106 more cars in that area…

Kids from school can shoot over there at lunch and get their fix. Should not be near a school. Who are these idiots that approve this crap. We blood new blood in this town cause the ones in charge now are ruining it
Reading these comments is a great reminder why I moved out of Toms River last year for the more loving and accepting City of Asbury Park! Instead of welcoming your new neighbors, you’ve chosen to hate them based on your misguided prejudices.
Folks, this is one part of a major redevelopment project that seeks to revive the business district, add nightlife and restaurants, realign traffic, prevent flooding and create a mixed use residential community (mainly aimed at millennials) in downtown TR. This is the polar opposite of what many people have in their minds. If you travel to many of the most successful, growing and often wealthiest communities in the US (Arlington/Fairfax VA comes to mind) this is the type of development you’ll find. Frankly, it’s what most Ocean County residents have said they wanted for many years.
Are my tax dollars going to house people who abuse and steal from welfare and unemployment benefits ? If so its a NO for me ??? merry festivous
Paul Cobra…yep?
