Don’t think this is ever going away ?
Carolyn Malkowski A war on drugs can’t be fought by politicians more interested in money and their own asses!
Trish Brophy you are 1000 % right.
The holidays are here, be prepared to see more overdoses. ☹
Too true. 🙁
I was unaware there was a connection. Any articles covering that topic explaining why?
Tim Cairns yes there is, holidays are stressful for addicts because its about family and most addicts are estranged from their families. That is emotionally stressful for addicts so to cover up their pain they tend to use more around the holiday season
Which is also why there is more overdoses, the more you use the more likely you will OD
“The stress of facing their families during holiday events while suffering from addiction or being excluded from family events because of their addiction can be a trigger point for people in active use,” said Dr. Kara Odom Walker, secretary of the state Department of Health and Social Services.
People are od’ing, not bc they use more drugs. They od bc heroin is laced with fentanyl.
The other reason people od is bc when they are sober their tolerance has gone down. They relapse and od.
No doubt the increase in fentanyl in heroin is part of the problem, but the unfortunate reality is that the holiday season isn’t terribly wonderful for a -lot- of people. It’s an emotional rollercoaster. Those folks seek escape from the pain that they’re feeling due to familial pressures, etc., like Cheyenne talks about above. Even if they’re included in the holidays, it can be extremely difficult. This tends to be why we see an uptick in drug use, ODs, and even suicides.
