Agine how hard is it to obey by code..
Obviously harder than it is to spell “again”
Guess soo ????

This is just wrong. There’s no way they should have to rebuild from Foundation up to move the building. If the roof is just off and it’s good for the town, they should grandfather it in. This is all about money. it always is.
Exactly UNLESS there are structural issues w what’s left and that’s causing them to rebuild and not rehabilitate. If it’s rebuilding has to be to current code if its rehabilitation then they are grandfathered in. Just went through it myself
All about money. They will pop them for every nickel and dime. Straight from the Sandy playbook.
I think the township is shooting themselves in the foot on this one.
I don’t think so. Anywhere else you would have to abide by current building codes. Tear it down, rebuild it new under codes or apply for variances m and make your money serving the general public.
B.J Brown according to the article they are not looking to tear it down. I think they are risking losing a pretty big tax revenue by chancing them not rebuilding.
Of course the rules should not apply to them. I loved cafferys, but the insurance will be covering most of their loses. Unless they were not insured properly.
Andrea Hirsch insurance isn’t going to pay for a entire new building when it is able to be fixed/gutted.
I believe that’s where the issue lies.
Andrea Hirsch Is it the insurance company or the township/county pushing the new and current building codes.
They’re state codes. The township must enforce state codes.
Wouldn’t you call that repairing not rebuilding. If they are not tearing the structure to the ground and just fixing what was destroyed.
New construction has to be to code? Whata crazy idea!!
Yes but part of the building is still sound and doesn’t need to be torn down
Beth Lane its new construction…
Cris Mello they arw trying to make them demo remaining structure and rebuild from scratch hence making it new construction. If the remaining current structure is structurally sound theres no reason for demo and it then becomes rehabilitation instead of new construction.
Cris Mello Yeah but isn’t the party that’s still standing going to be used. I remember something about that right after the fire. That they plan to bull to what is still standing.
They should demo it so it will be up to current code. Why would you rebuild anything thats not up to code?? Move it and build a bigger and better place..
There is know reason they cant restore it and bring it up to new codes… no reason to tear it down
Pete Flanagan You are both correct but the problem is “New Code ” includes a Rt 9 Set back.
Angelo Eppolito correct
The standard has always been, as long as you’re using the existing foundation you can’t be required to relocate the building on to meet existing setbacks. I believe Caffreys will win in court. The site work to start from scratch will likely be hundreds of thousands, even close to $1 million. Its insane.
If it’s rebuilding has to be to current code if its rehabilitation then they are grandfathered in. Just went through it myself
Now a new building they’re going to make them go by. the current and New codes.
I guess we can give them money , what do you think? Was a good place
Is every really that bent about a bar not being able to break code and rebuild? Are these peoples lives really that boring that they could take time out of their day to go to a meeting to see if a bar was going to be rebuilt? That’s one less establishment churning out drunk driver after drunk driver 7 days a week. Is it really that bad that it’s not being rebuilt that quick?
You must be real fun at parties.
Oh I’m a blast at parties with friends. A bunch of jokers screaming at a football game on the other hand. Not so much
Erik Dollman do you realize the establishment you are so negatively speaking about has supported numerous local charities and events including local Police and Fire. Caffrey’s supports locals getting together and socializing safely and responsibly! It’s how new friends are made – you should try it some day!
not to mention it was a family atmosphere where bartenders were friends not just servers ……..stay in the woods bud
Well i guess your life is really boring also to have so much to say about it. And its not just a bar to alot of people.
Woo hoo Robb is back
They want it set back from rt 9 just.like all the new businesses building on 9… So the state can take property over and widen 9
Frank Feimer yup
Make a call to Bar Rescue
Everyone thinks they are different and special until they realize they are the same as everyone else. Demo the building stop wasting money on lawyers to fight something they are not going to win and move on.
