South Toms River: From last night’s critical pedestrian accident on NJ 166 by Sundae’s, a press release has been issued.


On 9/28/2018, at approximately 2250 hours, the South Toms River Police Dept. responded to the area of 308 Atlantic City Blvd for a pedestrian struck. Upon arrival, officers observed a female, later identified as Danielle Frederick, unresponsive, face-up in the southbound lane. CPR was being performed by a nurse (in uniform) as well as an off-duty EMT. Paramedics were able to stabilize the Frederick for transport and she was transported to Jersey Shore University Medical Center for treatment. She is listed in critical condition.

Further investigation revealed that a 2008 Kia Optima, driven by Alyse Gombas, was traveling northbound on Atlantic City Blvd. when she struck Frederick and her boyfriend Vincent Mangione in the roadway. Gombas is an on-duty registered nurse and immediately exited her vehicle to render aid to Frederick who was unresponsive. She continued treatment until arrival of police and paramedics. Gombas remained on scene and provided a statement. Gombas did not show any signs of impairment and a blood sample was not obtained.
